Way OT: about burning mp3's to cd for listening in "mp3 cd player"??

I was under the impression you could simply copy the mp3 files to a cdr and play them in a cd player that says it will play mp3's
However when I tried this I got a cdr full of mp3's that play fine in my computer but not in the cd player.
Must I burn them as an audio disc? Am I missing something here?

that's the way my best bud's machine works - just drop em onto a CDR just like u would any other files. You did finalise the CD didn't u ? Other than that i see no reason why it won't work :S

If it's a true MP3 CD player, you should be able to burn the MP3 files that you want onto the cd with Nero, but be sure the option to finalize the CD is checked when you burn it. At least that's how I burn MP3s for my MP3 CD player, and it works fine. 😕

You might want to check it with just a regular CD, if you haven't already, to make sure it works ok.

What they said 🙂

That's all I've done for my car cd player. I'll tell ya, it sure is nice having just ONE CD to worry about on a drive to Florida! 😀

Who needs MP3 cd's? Just put a computer in the car, and have GB's worth of MP3's, rather than 700MB worth!

😛

Confused

Wiz, you just said a "CD" player. It has to be a new CD player that has MP3 playing capability otherwise you would have to convert the Mp3 files to ordinary wav format to play in an old style CD audio only player.

Right, it's a little sony cd player that says it plays cdr's cdrw's mp3's etc.
I'll try again and look for the finalize checkbox.
Thanks guys!

Easy CD Creator(i have 5.02) has an option to create an mp3 cd. It puts 4-5 files on there including an exe and a playlist.

After I started using this, my cheap portable mp3 cd player skips a lot less, and loads quicker.

Thanks, I'm using Nero 5.5
It makes Audio CD's out of MP3's but you can only get about 18 songs on a disc.
I copied all the songs to one disc as a data disc but didn't check the finalize disc checkbox.
Next time I'll try that and see what happens.

hmm, makes an AudioCD? Thats not good. Just start a new data CD and just drag your MP3s into that directory. Then burn it. That SHOULD be all... maybe burn a bit slower (2 or 4x), finalize and use a different CD-R... What format are the MP3s in? I hope simple normal MP3s... no MP3pro, no lower samplerate or whatever... then about no player should have a problem. Just check your CDs you're writing on... maybe they are incompatible with your CD player.

Anyway I was under the impression that the Sony MP3 discman belong to the better ones...

Btw I'm using a iRiver MP3-CD-Player... don't even need to finalize or whatever 😛 I think it eats about anything round shaped 😉 And heck, its not even expensive in the US! IIRC less than $100 for the ChromeX...

No, they are 48x cdr's - they work great with my 40x burner.
After I dragged the mp3's to it and burned them my daughter tried it in her new Sony walkman (mp3 - cdr - cdrw compatable it said) and they wouldn't play. Then she put it in her computer and they played fine.
So I am thinking it's the "finalize cd" thing, I just haven't gotten around to trying again. Been doing a bunch of other stuff here 😉

but when you burn at high speeds the CD is not so good... well, when you try to write at high speeds with your hand will your result be looking as good/clear as if you are writing slow? So maybe your daughters CD drive's optics are better than the MP3 player one's... and so the discman has its problems reading it...

The one thing no one has mentioned yet is the color of the CD-R dye. Some cheap CD players have a different color laser that isn't good at reading certain colors of dye. You might want to try a different brand of discs if closing the CD out doesn't solve the problem.

Ok, these a Verbatim CDR's certified for 48X burning.
I also have some TDK CD-RW's here but I didn't want to use them for this kind of thing.

Hey Wiz, just a little suggestion. You seem to have plenty of time to post here; why don't you just take a little of that time to burn the CD again and see if it works. Oh, I see, you're afraid that burning a CD will take too much CPU power from SETI... 😉

heheh... I'm posting between things like building new machines for seti and trying to repair mobos for seti.
A post like this only taks a couple seconds! Getting all those mp3's together again takes too much time out of my system building / repairing day 😉

Keep in mind almost all audio players can't read CD RW's. I get cd players sent in for repair all the time, and there is nothing wrong with them. CD R is fine for audio.

But its a Sony... from Sony I expect that their products are at least ok... not being able to read RWs as a MP3 player is simply not ok (most mp3 players should be able to do that). But of course you can always try... I'm almost only using RWs now because its just simply very conviniant(?). Works 100% perfect here.

But are you SURE its a MP3 player (do you have a manual? What does it say about MP3? Or perhaps you can tell us the product name?). I've even seen a earphone which says MP3 on its packing... well, it IS able to play MP3s... if you have a MP3 player 😀 So your discman might be able to play MP3s... after having converted them into a normal Audio CD 😉 )

Ps: You can always save the CD (which files in which directories, the name of the CD etc.) so you only have to get your MP3s together once... (at least Nero can 🙂 )

Yes, I could do that - but of course I thought it would just work the first time and no real need to move things around the network so much. The CD player definitely is supposed to play MP3 files, and it actually tried on the previous cd I burned.
It plays the audio discs I made from the MP3 files just fine, but that's not the point of course.
Maybe today while I am waiting for the Turkey to cook I will have some time and will try again.
