I don't eat KFC that much. My wife wanted some tonight.
The KFC is a take-out only...it gets mobbed on Friday nights-Sunday. It's sandwiched between a 7-Eleven and some food stamp/welfare place...all are free-standing buildings.
KFC has hardly any parking because due to some law, they have to add some many handicapped spaces for every group of regular. They have no room for any more handicapped spaces. There are like 3 spaces for customers left once the staff is parked.
Now they were required to put in at least one public and handicapped accessable restroom in the front of the store (customers of course cannot use the staff restroom as they would have to pass through the kitchen).
This is taking out all the seating and leaving only enough room for about 3-4 people to comfortably wait for their food.
Because of the bathroom they need to shorten their counter top where the registers are...it's already pretty short, but with the new handicapped bathroom a wheel chair cannot turn easily to get behind the counter. They need to accomodate the possibility of a wheelchair bound employee and they cannot require them to use the back entrance.
Since they have to allow for wheelchair bound employees the countertop also has to be lowered. They had it a bit high as it provides some protection from someone reaching over to grab cash and run (they have incidents time to time with the welfare place next door).
I was talking to the manager about it...there is also another law about the grease they can use now, soon it cannot contain trans-fats by law. (I think trans-fats, we were talking about a lot of stuff)...he said it's going to increase the price of fried chicken quite a bit and friend foods in general. A lot of mom and pop shops may need to drop fried items all together because the ingredients are going to be a lot more costly esp when they aren't buying in as large of quantities.
I am all for helping though with handicaps, but when you can't do it and then that prevents you from helping able-bodied customers...it's just wrong.

They kicker is the lobby and counters were all redone last year.
