I'm getting confused here, do you just use a plain ol' clothes iron? I know that there are snowboard-specific irons, but you know...$$ can be a problem.
The diff between a clothesiron and the special iron is the lack of steam holes on the latter. Just find a clothes iron your don't care about, or, you might even try covering it with foil.
The oldest, cheapest, piece or working metal you can find. That is what I use and have used for waxing my skis, with never a single problem. Just be sure to set the temp. right so the wax doesn't get fried.
yep, a plain old iron will work fine. like SilentRavens said, watch the tempurature. you only need the iron to be hot enough to melt the wax. and, of course, don't expect to use the iron for clothes ever again.
i know if you go to sports chalet or maybe a skate shop that sells snowbaords, i think burton sells an iron that has no steam holes (and it's made specifically for waxing)... however, it will be quite a hit to the wallet...
just get an old iron that you don't use... never never never ever use it on clothes after you've waxed with it, it will destroy your clothes...
it shouldn't affect the waxing AFAIK... just make sure you get the wax spread out over the board.
I supported my skiing habit through HS and college tuning boards.....as said before the best irons are flat irons without any holes.
You can usually find these at pawn shops, garage sales and estate sales. I always pick these up when I see them and have a backup stash of 3 right now.
