I am covnerting SHN files to MP3. Going to Wav is easy enough, but hte tool im using doesn't convert wav to variable bit rate MP3s.

Anyone have a tool to do this?

Do either of these convert to VBR-MP3? I want to do variable bit rate.

I jsut DLed Exact Audio Copy whcih is supposed to handle this, but I'm still tring to figure it out.

Thanks.

I use EAC to rip, LAME to encode. There's an app called RazorLAME that is the frontend I use for encoding, but it still goes through LAME. Just set it to --alt-preset standard and off I go.

OMG, I jsut found this:
oggdropXP

it is insane! It uses vog-orbis and it is a drag and drop program where you jsut pull a wave file into the drop in box and it automatically starts encoding to your pre-set settings to the directory where the wav file exists.

Of course, it is ogg, but I can see why people like it. It's a variable bit rate lossles compression utility. I don't mind ogg ;) It works in foobar.

Still wish I had MP3 files, but I think i'll survive.

EDIT: I know it's not what I asked for, but it accomplishes my goal. To save disk space ;)

Download the latest LAME codec and put the lame.dll file in the CDex directory. Oh yeah, use CDex! :)
