Waterproofing a digicam?

Is there any way to waterproof a digital camera for SCUBA diving, without having to pay out the ass for a plexiglass holder? I'd imagine a plastic bag with a good enough seal could do the same job as long as it was tight over the lens part, right? I don't think i'll be going any deeper than 30-40 feet and want to take along my digimax 360 for the ride.

A proper case is all well and fine for scrooge mcduck, but i'm more in the range of plastic bags and rubber bands at the moment.. =( it can't be that hard to keep water out of these things..

seriously all it takes is a few drops and they are screwed 😛

if i were you i'd look in the yellowpages ( i assume your telephone directory is called that too) and see what camera specialists you can contact, cos sometimes they can make custom cases to what you want (even shallow/cheap ones i imagine).

Plastic will work (done it), but you'd better hope to God there isn't a leak or your fvcked. And the plastic will show up in the picture and potentially mess with the auto-focus.

your cheapest option - ebay for the glass cases. I can't believe you really want to use a plastic bag to save your digital camera investment.

You people have no sense of adventure. 😛

I used a plastic zip lock bag for money once when I went swimming. I ended up with some wet bills and that zip lock was sealed tight

Yea that's only rated for like 10 feet though, the really GOOD fishes are on the bottom - 30 to 40 feet. The ones near the surface are retarded from too much sun.

Get a disposable underwater film camera. Some popular cameras (such as the Canon A line) have expensive aftermarket underwater cases available, but I've read reviews stating they leaked.

Smear vaseline all over it and toss it in the sink. If it works, take it in the ocean with you. If it doesn't, they have waterproof 35mm's at Wally for about 10 bucks.

if your gonna take it to 30-40 feet your also gonna need some external lights as its nit bright enough down that without them

I'm sure he's got that planned already.. just tossing an ordinary flash light in a plastic bag with a really tight seal..

Give me some credit here - I'll be taking enough waterproof flares to take care of the flash problem.

Wait a minute, you're going to use this for scuba diving?

I thought you were just going to stick the camera a few feet underwater and snap a picture of something.

You'll need a container or your camera is done for.
