Watercooling?

First off, I have no real experience or knowledge with watercooling, so bear with me.

I want to get decent watercooling. I have a 939 3700+, and a PCIe 7900GS. My video card blocks the northbridge, so I can't cool it I don't think. Not sure about anything else ATM. The case I'm using is a Centurion 5, I have 1 HD. Anyway, I want to know if watercooling would be applicable for my build, and if somebody could suggest a watercooling set-up for me, somebody with no knowledge about watercooling. I'm looking for like 180 dollars max, I might be able to stretch it a bit.

Thanks.

$180 is not really that much for watercooling. For $350 you can pick up a Swiftech H20-220 APEX ULTRA PLUS @performance-pcs.com. It has a 120x2 radiator, a cpu-block, a gpu-block, a chipset block, and a pump. It's decent (from what I've heard). Or you can get the APEX Ultra which doesn't have the GPU or Chipset blocks and you can get those separately for about $45. That would be about $305.

Ask Aigomorla. I'm sure he'll post here soon. He helped me out with my new set-up (~$650-700 for the watercooling... then I have about $900 more in parts to buy but that's another story). A cheap Thermaltake or Koolance system is no better than the best air coolers such as a Thermalright Ultra120 eXtreme pre-lapped from SVC.com and the TR air cooler is a lot less effort and stress. But I'm sure Aigo will be here.

u cant watercool all that with 180 dollars.

The minimum i could pull off a decient working system is 200 for CPU ONLY. Add a GPU +45. Add a NB + 30. But you'll need a bigger radiator if you want the GPU's.

However your case is very small, and the radiator would most likely be needed to be externally mounted.

Try to strech your budget, or wait for a bigger budget. Thats the best recomendation i can give you atm.

you can def make a decent setup for $180, no it wont get amazing temps, but it will do a good job; especially if you just cool the cpu.

this kit for $150 for example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835108075 will keep your cpu damn cool. And you could replace the stock 120 radiator with a dual 120 for another $35 bucks http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835108086 and it will cool even better. you could probally even add a gpu block and would still get great temps. No it wont break any records, but it will cool damn well and would be nice and quiet!

Then you would need to start worrying if the pump was able to push enough through all that.
You would need another fan to be attached to the new radiator.
The GPU block is another 40-50 dollars.
You would need to add some more tubing.

Listen to Aigomorla. He knows what he's saying.

did u not see his want list on cooling?

HE wants the board cpu and video card.

That is impossible on a sub 200 dollar budget. He would honestly get better temps if he air'd the video card, air'd the board, and watercooled the cpu.

if he threw all that in the same loop with that kit, then no. The migration for all that isnt worth it, because it wont be far from air.

Just save up money and when you get about $350 you could do some decent for CPU + GPU

"Then you would need to start worrying if the pump was able to push enough through all that."
The mcp350 has 13ft of head, it could handle a couple of blocks without breaking a sweat

h20-120($140)+mcr-220($36)+D-TEK FuZion GTX($50)+120 fan($15) = $241 and it would keep his components WAY colder then air cooling. His cpu, overclocked, would most likely be in the 30s during load and if an 8800gtx loads around 50 on watercooling his 7900gs, overclocked, would be in the 30-40 range easily. Air temps couldn't match that if they tried.

"My video card blocks the northbridge, so I can't cool it" meaning he just wanted a cpu and gpu block. For around 250 he could watercool his cpu and gpu and his temps would be great, it would be fun to setup, and would be nice and quiet.

DO YOU WATERCOOL?

WRONG his cpu would be more in the 50c at load. How do i know?

My 500 dollar system at best did this:

So if you have no idea on what your saying or doing. Please dont confuse the newbies.

yes aigo i do know what im talking about, and i have watercooled my computer before.

his cpu would not be in the 50s unless his ambient temps were high or he was overvolting like crazy. I had an athlon64 3200(winchester core) overclocked, running on a single 120mm radiator and my max temps were in the 40s and that was using a crappy spiral block and a cheap eheim 1000compact pump. that system cost ~100(block:35,heatercore:35:pump:20) and it performed quite well. The Thermal Power of the athlon64 proc is 89W, so with just the original kit i posted, his load temps would be 89*0.134(the C/W rating)=12 over ambient. If ambient was 25C his proc at load would only be 37. This would roughly be his load temps until the swiftech kit, if he added a dual radiator the temps would drop even more.

I'm currently researching the newer products to start cooling my c2d. I'm not trying to confuse anyone, I'm just letting it be known that it can be done for less. You dont need to spend 500+ to have a nice watercooling setup.

Raider, MCP350 has only 10.8 feet of head now. You say you're researching the newer products? Then you should have seen that.

Deathawk, listen to Aigomorla. Forget water for now, you need a bigger budget.

im gonna agree with aigomorla as well, im lookin to cool my e6300 further in the future and upgrade futher on as well, im looking at, at least 400 dollar cooling system with a triple 120 rad and a hell of a pump. ill ask one question, if he were to go with a 150 dollar cooling system, are you the one thats going to answer his thread when he's complaining about how its not cooling enough, and he wants to know how to upgrade the system he's got? i had a athlon 64 3200 with a xp-90, then 120, the 90 kept me in the low 40's, the 120, brought me into the mid 30's, what did you have on watercooling, and yes i had a mild overclock, i dont recall now since its been 3-4yrs since i had that system. the air cooling i had then, was hella nice.

His temps at load will definitely be around 50 degrees...

my setup:

DCC-2
Thermochill PA120.3
D-TEK Fuzion
Swiftech MicroRES.

My ambient temps are alright around 26-28 degrees. Granted they should be lower, but i have some fan issues right now that i will fix this weekend.

Anyways... my load temps on an e4300 overclocked @ 1.3375 volts are about 46. Yes aigomorla i finally reduced the voltage from 1.56V muahaha
