As subject says... seems worthless no? The chipset never seems to actually get hot... that I can notice, the active cooling on my current a7N8x doesn't seem to ever get warm, but I suppose when I watercool tehre will be much less airflow...

what do you guys think...

I was thinking for my setup I would simply cool CPU + video card and then back to resevoir...

i don't know about you but I'm going for the noise factor, it'd be worth something if you can get rid of that fan.

hmmm good point... but still do you think it even creates a decent amount of heat?

even better, could I simply remove the fan off the NF7-S v2.0 and simply install something like a passive NB cooler.. say from something like zalman?

I've never heard of these actually getting hot...

I'd say go with a passive solution, it's not worth adding an extra water block. If you're not worried about the noise just leave the fan, those little fans don't make much noise anyway (unless they start to go bad, then they can make an annoying wheezing noise).

Yup, it should be just fine. You should order 2 Zalman's while you're at it, one for the northbridge and one for the southbridge. Shipping is usually more expensive than those little heatsinks anyways.

I think you are just wasting time by ordering the Zalman. The NB doesn't generate much of its own heat at all. Most of its heat comes from the CPU region. Alot of MB's don't even use passive cooling on the NB (although these are usually cheaper MB's). Worry about other components overheating, but not yer NB.

I've decided that with NFII watercooled NB is useless unless you've volt-modded it. I removed the chipset block, and put on a tall-ish passive heatsink.

Hmmm I'm still undecided to whether I should bother removing the stock fan on the northbridge and put zalman passive or just meh and leave it. I know I wouldn't even hear it.

Either way, I've decided against watercooling the NB.

Thanks for the excellent responses guys!

i read in some other threads that people just simply removed the fan on the stock hs for the nb since it didnt generate much heat. i'm sure your case temps will be low enough for the nb if your going water.

Which is going to be better for cooling - the Zalman passive or the stock hsf?

I'm running at 200fsb with an unlocked 2500, the fan was starting to whine so I removed it replaced the top. Done !

Watercooling the Northbridge is actually a good idea. Most chipsets run around 50C and it good knowing it's running cooler when watercooled.

mmmm I'm just going to slap a zalman passive cooler on the NB.

Thanks for the help guys.
