Watercooling setup

I started watercooling back in 1999 with heatercore and DD Cube with Eheim1250 with spiral. My current i7 is being cooled with CM V8 and I am looking to replace it with WC.

I would like to cool my CPU, Chipset and vid. Few Q's:

1. Should I go two separate radiator setup?
(Pump/Res -> CPU -> Dual Radiator -> Vid -> Chipset -> Single Rad -> back to Pump/Res) The reason for separate rad is, if I cool CPU then the water would be warm/hot cooling the vid and chipset.

2. I am looking for simple setup (one of the reason why i got out of WC, requiring too much maintenance). Asetek setup seems to be a nice kit with simple hose connect.

3. Should I just stick with V8?

Actually the water will reach an equilbrium temperature. The difference in temperture between any two spots will only be 1-2C.

99% of premade watercooling kits are junk. Your V8 would be better.
 
but water coming out of cpu should be hotter than the water coming out of res no?

Asetek kit I was looking at is just a kit put together using dual rad (black ice) with their pump and block

1. no need for the dual radiator. temps will NOT be cooler right after your radiator. the temperatures will be @ equilibrium. get a single triple radiator (i suggest the XSPC RX360 if you want great cooling at low noise)

2. if you're looking for simple, WC is NOT for you. get your parts separate. we can help you with any parts that you may need. just ask.

3. no, the v8 is big and heavy and not that good of a cooler. it may bend your mb over time and break some connections on the PCB which will lead to instabilities.

I also prefer their fittings since it's easy and no worry about things leaking (I've had more positive experience with this plug fit as oppose to metal clamps)

Going back to your original Q's, yeah, it is @ equilibrium. For example, when my i7@ 3.9GHz is at 75C, the GTX260 right after it is only at 65C. Water doesn't act like that.

The V8 will be fine. People don't give motherboards and ATX specifications enough credit. As long as you have the backplate, all nine motherboard mounts, and don't move it roughly or ship it, you'll be fine. I've shipped a computer with a Thermalright U120 across country. My motherboard is a little warped, but it works fine still.

If you want better fittings, I would suggest bitspower compression fittings over the Asetek fittings. If you are truly serious about this, the Swiftech MCP355 with XSPC Reservoir/pump top is one of the better combinations out there and works with standard G1/4 fittings. A good watercooling system is simple, but does require maintenance. You've done it before, so you should know you shouldn't get cocky about anything, but don't worry too much about it. A good 120x2 radiator is the XSPC RX240, Fesser XChanger 240, and the Thermochill PA120.2. If you are only going for a 120x2, you can still go for using two radiators, and even though it doesn't affect the temperature right after the radiator, it does allow lower equilibrium temperature due to the greater thermal dissipation of two radiators over one. So go for your two radiators. XSPC RX240 and an RX120 would be a good choice.

Are maintenance much easier now days since the introduction of reservoir and so on? I remember the days when I had to refill every few weeks through T line

XSPC RX240, they seem little thick and I would like to put it on top of my case with the fans on my cosmos 1000. Will they fit without interfering with the heatsinks of the mobo?

Are you talking about the Dual bay pump/res from XSPC?

I also saw those koolance fittings on the net. Are those compression fittings as well? how do they compare to bitspower? Thanks again!!!

Water still requires a lot of maintenance so if your still not commited, stick with the V8.
 
I don't know the Cosmos by experience. Can't help you there. Maybe someone else can chime in (I have the HAF 932, ATCS 840, and P182).

Maintenance is okay if you have both a reservoir and T-line. I can pretty much let my system go for 6 months (I use light additives), drain it by T-line, and then fill up by reservoir. You still need to bleed, but it is much easier (read Aigo's sticky).

I'm talking about this. You need to buy the Swiftech MCP355 in addition to that reservoir/top.
Jab-tech is also a great site to use. Also, performance-pcs.com, mountainmods, and petrastechshop. I prefer jab-tech if they have the parts. Also, sidewindercomputers and a few other sites are good.

I have no personal experience with compression fittings (They require exact fittings for your tubing ID/OD. I use standard fittings with nylon or worm-gear clamps (depending on the tubing and fittings used). I use bitspower fittings for specialty fittings, thought my usual fittings are EK-high flows and DangerDen fatboys.

i recomment the RX240 as a dual radiator. it beats out the top radiators with fans up to 1500rpm.
pumps should not be chosen by GPH, it goes by head pressure and the Swiftech MCP355 has among the highest head's under $100. combine that with the XSPC Reservoir Top for DDC and you have the best reservoir/pump combination.
normal fittings (such as DD 1/2" OD Fatboys + 7/16"ID tubing) will not leak with steel worm clamps. even better than compression fittings.
no comment on v8, thing is too big and blocks off too many things around my MB for me to work in.

1) He got most of the parts from Jab-tech.

2) Not that great. The MCP355 is a better pump.

Depends on the type of tubing you select. The 7/16 ID 5/8 is good for MasterKleer and Tygon 7/16" ID 5/8" OD Tubing.

if the cosmos 1000 has the "triple 120" fan mounts on top, it will fit the RX240.

I got my parts mostly from Jab-tech.com, some from PetrasTechshop, some from performance-pcs but they're mad expensive.
like my man pctc says, get the MCP355 + XSPC Reservoir Top. it is a killer combo!

also, check the link in my sig it has a picture of my setup, or look for my thread of my watercooling setup
