Watercooling kit for $89.95 (Compgeeks)

Not sure if this is hot or not. Compgeeks has this watercooling kit (I just ordered the kit). Looks like a Senfu kit from the looks of the waterblock and radiator. Has all the hoses and a pump (not an Eheim brand, though).
Not a geek special, so you can use coupons if you have any.🙂

I'm not trying to crap on the deal or anything, but for long term use this may be a problem.

Aluminum base, copper fins, and clear plastic top

Aluminum + Copper + water = galvanic corrosion. The aluminum is gradually going to be eaten away. Generally if your going watercooled it's best to stick with a system that's either all copper or all aluminum and not mix the 2 together. If both the aluminum and copper are in contact with the water it will basically form a battery and oxidation reduction reactions will occur with the aluminum being oxidized and dissolved. With the 2 actually being physically connected together it will worsen the problem as it will form a direct path for electrons to flow and promote the reaction.

Nice info, nice looking deal. Checking out water cooling myself.

It should be noted that AMD stipulates a COPPER base (or copper inserted base) for even an air cooling solution.

The thermal properties of copper (or silver for the extremists) are much better suited for the small contact area of
an AMD core.

To go with water cooling and not mate copper to the die seems wrong to me.

Might work well with intel cpus, or other relatively large surface area cpus.

Just a side note...

I agree it's a nice kit and very reasonably priced compared to other w/c solutions.

Not sure if the die surface of an amd cpu is really that much smaller than a PIV, besides a PIV at 3GHz produces 82W about the same as the palomino core athlons at 2GHz

Yo

Senfu has never made very good products. for the price you would pay at compgeeks you could build a much better system. i'd bet that this kit is outperformed by high-end aircooling.

The few reviews i've seen of this shows it's junk. Save your money if you looking to really crank the chip. If your looking just for quiet. Then it's for you.

Looks like the radiator uses 2 80mm fans, don't think it's going to be that quiet. You would be better off getting an Alpha PAL8045 or a Swiftech with an adjustable fan. Quiter and cheaper.

Not trying to thread crap, but if any of you really want to invest into a wc system, spend a little more. Otherwise, yeah, going for a high end air cooler would be a better choice. Alpha, Swiftech, and my new favorite, Thermalright, they all produce kick ass heatsinks.
