Water everywhere!! :(

Now: I'm sitting here after moving all my unpacked boxes, hoping this water isn't ruining my new house or collect in such a way to cause mildew or mold. I mopped away the top layer of the water as best I could, and am waiting on some professional carpet guys to arrive... this sucks... but I can't let myself down, this shouldn't cost me anything, except some of my knick knacks that got water damaged... bleh.

Prefix: During lunch today I went home and did my first load of laundry at my new house. I set it to wash and went back to work thinking everything should work the way it should work. I come home about 40 minutes ago and find EVERYTHING soaked... my entire 1st floor has standing water in the slightly low parts on the tile, and my den carpet is soaked... lots of my stuff got wet!

Pre-Prefix: I bought a brand new house, all appliances included. Brand new washer/dryer, everything, pre-installed. Closed on the 16th, and started moving my stuff in. Friday night was my first night after I moved in.

Prologue: I'm no n00b to washers, I don't overfill or anything, so this is clearly a leaky pipe or something... my guess is it is the drainage pipe, since i felt the back of it and it was wet...

whoever hooked it up after the move must have made a boo boo or something got broken

yes, the drain pipe is likely either loose or off or cracked

best to replace those with new when you move the unit

Check for a clog in the drain

Possibly a cracked/leaking washer tub?

Leaking water hose going to washer?

Bad hose connection going to washer?

Check all of the connections. Most likely, it's a drain hose problem, but you could also have a leak in the feeder hoses.

Beyond that, I'd go after the builder. There's no excuse for problems like this in a brand new home, so they're likely liable for the cost of the cleanup and for fixing the washer. Check your sales contract, though, and make sure there's no clauses in there that indemnify the builder (I hope not...if there are, don't ever use that agent again).

The builder had people come over and do the cleaning of the carpet... Its still all wet but there are air movers running... tomorrow there'll be plumbers coming in to check the pipes for blockage or anything. As far as I know the builder will be footing the bills for this(as they should).

Be carful with the carpet if you dont fix it the floor board will mold, then your screwed.

At the OP lives in AZ, as per his profile. Hopefully the drier climate will minimize any mildew issue.

In new homes I have seen: toilets that flush hot water, upstairs jet tubs that leak into the dining room, incorrectly wired light switches, crooked light switch covers, a glove left under a new carpet, carpets not attached to the stairs, uncalked sinks, tile backsplashes that were not grouted, lots of missed paint, missing roof vents, cracked and discoloured concrete patios, no insulation in the attic which led to cutting out a section of drywall to check the walls, yep no insulation in the exterior walls, garage doors that had water flow under them from the driveway, missing window screens, and used appliances built-in to a new house.

I am forgetting a lot of other stuff, but you get the point. Buyers do a final walk through and pray that you have an honest appraiser.
