Hey there folks! SGT Gonzalez here (army medic). I recently built a new gaming rig consisting of HAF 922, Asus p8Z68 mobo, i5 2500k, corsair tx 650 ps, patriot 1600 ddr 8 gigs, patriot 120 gb pyro ssd, asus gtx 560 ti dc ii and a 212 + for cooling.

A few days ago I aqquired a slightly used http://www.thermaltakeusa.com/Product.aspx?C=1160&ID=1618

Before the flaming begins lol, It was free and with a new baby, cant afford too much :\. Near me in WA state is a brick and mortar store called Infotech that sells and has Koolance products as well as techs on site from koolance. What i am wondering is if I can start with a basic cpu loop using the pump and reservoir of the kit above ( pump is p 400 with 400L/hr, 1.76 gallons/min flow, and 2.10m of water lift) and using a koolance copper 2x120 mm or 3x 120mm rad. Also the kit does have a decent looking block but I dont have a bracket for it. What are your thoughts on the water block and if I should keep it, where can I get a bracket to mount it on my mobo/cpu. Also where would be the best place to mount a 2 and 3 fan rad on the HAF 922 case? Also would I see a decrease in temps from the 212+?

P.S. Never water cooled before!

Thanks in advance! :)

If the barbs on the pump/res are standard (G1/4 threading and standard diameters) you have a good shot at reusing the pump/res.

looks like you could put a 240 rad on top, you will need 3/8 barbs to work with that kit. you will also need either the bracket for the current block or a new block, there are several good one out there, including the koolance cpu-370. you might try contacting thermaltake and see if they can send you a replacement bracket but considering the age of the kit you may be better of with a new block.

My first water cooling setup is a go! No leaks, no fuss  I am trying to send you all some pics when I figure out how to lol. I bought a koolance cpu 370 block,140x2 koolance radiator, 4 nozzles, hoses and 2 fans. I kept the Thermaltake 120mm rad and mounted it on the outside back of the case with the fan inside pushing through it. I removed the small bay trays in the HAF 922 below and thats where the pump and reservoir are sitting. I left a bit of play on the intake and outlet hoses so I can pull the res out to refill. The 140mm x2 radiator i mounted up above. The case does not have mounting holes for 140's so I did some adjusting with two hardware screws i had. Later on I will drill the holes to make it look better. I went from pump to rad up top, from rad to cpu, cpu to back rad and back rad to reservoir. My temps running prime 95 before toped out at 70c one of the cores using the CM 212+ heatsink. Now my Highest core with prime 95 after 6 hours is 48c!!! 5 passes of Intel Burn Test resulted in a highest temp of 42c !!! This is all with just incresing the multiplier up to 42 ( 4200 mhz ). Idle temp has been around 24c with the fans on standard settings. So far does it seem the water cooling is doing its job? I still see some air bubbles in the line, small ones. Will these eventually go away or should i leave the reservoir top off to help?

Thanks all!
SGT Gonzalez

normally you want to run the loop for around 24 hrs after you set it up with nothing else powered up just in case it leaks. you may also want to add a silver coil to your res for anti-bacterial purposes.

http://jab-tech.com/Antimicrobial-Silver-Strip-pr-4530.html

the bubble should clear out after a couple of days and it wont hurt to keep the res topped off either as the air find its way to the reservoir.

I am using a red UV Koolance liquid that has anti-corrosive and microbial properties. Should I still use a coil? I really did not want to use a dyed coolant but they had no red tubing =( just clear in the size i needed. Eventually I will replace it and use red tubing with distilled water and silver coils. 9 hours of prime 95 blend and highest temp was 48c =). Is that decent for a crappy first WC unit?

Thanks for all your replies btw folks!

nope, not with that coolant, when you change over to distilled water, then yes.

not bad at all, mine runs hotter by about 10- 20 degrees depending on room temp, but then I have a hotter chip to begin with.

NO NO NO dont use it...

even tho it was free.. its NOT worth the headache..

Thermaltake is called THERMALFAIL to us in liquid cooling.
That's the name we offically gave TT products which goes into Liquid cooling.
Especially the bigwater setups.... and i am speaking from experience.

So take my advice... dont use Thermaltake water products even tho it was free.
Just box it... and donate it to someone... your better off staying on Air.
A lot of bad things can happen with bad water products.. and u can end up killing hardware which many have.
