since windows vista is comming out and it will run our desktops at 3d mode all the time, our core and memory clock speeds would also be running at 3d modes all the time , this means that the fans on the gpus would be running at full throttle all the time and would make a lot of LOUD noise. **(explaination in brackets below)

Here comes WATER COOLED GPUS...SAPHIRE BLIZZARD X1900xtx

http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=2737&p=3

it not only keeps the temperature down, it almost takes the proble of noise associated with video cards and throws it out the window..

Thus we might be seeing a lot of companies making water cooled VGPUs as standard in the future.

what are your thoughts?

**((for those of you who don't know this, our video cards run at lower clock speeds when we are running at 2d mode, like on the internet, or on desktop, to generate less heat and avoid the fans running at full throttle all the time.

When the pc enters a 3d mode, the video card raises it core and memory clocks to what it was advertised when you bought the card))

Anand's little review of that wasn't that inspiring. The load temps on the water cooled part were the same as the non water cooled, it just took them a bit longer to get there.

It did have higher clocks though on the core.

I wasn't impressed at all. Temps were practically the same, and so was the noise.
Besides, you can turn the 3D Aeroglass Vista theme off.

The fan speed doesn't necissarily increase when going into 3D mode since cards with dynamc clockspeeds use thermally controled fans, certainly they will almost never run "full throttle" as you claim unless a user specifically sets them to run 100%. LOUD noise is also dependant on the cooler for a particular video card.

Many cards will run pretty quiet in 3D mode, IGP will be completely silent for instance, even some performance cards will be pretty quiet, while some can be quite loud. The rest of your system, or ambient room noise may be loud enough to drown the noise as well.

I didn't notice that. Although I still wasn't that impressed. Its an interesting setup, but it didn't seem particularly worthwhile.

God graphics card run hot!
