Watching TV with a cable modem

I would like to watch TV on my pc, but have a cable modem. How do I do this? Is there a signal splitter I can use? Thanks.

What video card do you have in the system? you should give a detailed spec on your system first....

Right now I have a GeForce 3 Ti500. But I'm thinking about upgrading to a card like the Radeon 8500 which allows you to watch TV on your PC. I'm just wondering about the basic setup and whether it can be used with a cable modem.

Well the cable Internet and TV signals are 2 seperate things coming down the same pipe, so your cable modem will have nothing whatsoever to do with watching TV.

Do you also have cable TV service? Even if you don't, you can often get basic channels along with your internet service, although the cable company could well find out about this and become very irritated with you.

You will have to put a splitter before the cable gets to the cable modem. Then use a card like any Radeon All-in-Wonder or VIVO series. They all come with software for watching TV on your PC, and the AIW cards come with a remote as well.

You could get the Winfast TV2000XP Deluxe for $60 or so. See this thread. Supports TV/FM, video capture, timeshifting, recording TV or FM, and more. I just bought two of them and like it alot so far... after a week.

Thanks for the info. I decided to go with a Radeon 9700, so will look into the Winfast TV2000XP Deluxe as a supplement for watching TV.

It looks like Winfast has a new version (the Expert) coming out soon. I don't see it newegg though...anyone know the ETA on this?

It looks very similar if not identical to the TV2000XP Deluxe, but it does mention a 10 bit comb filter, which looks new, maybe not.

For anyone that may be interested, I checked with Leadtek on the Expert and got the following response:

"About the TV2000XP Expert, this version is only for Japanese market. So, the product you will be looking into is: TV2000XP Deluxe

http://www.leadtek.com.tw/www/Web_Leadtek/multimedia/TV2000_XP/TV2000-XP-deluxe.asp

This product still supports EPG, PIP, De-Interace...etc. Same as the version of TV2000XP Expert."

It's too bad it isn't available in the US, since it appears to be a better product (10 bit video decoder with adaptive comb filter, MiniDIN 9-pin connector for video and audio input).

Anyway, I just ordered the Deluxe from newegg.com.

I bet the one you ordered has that same comb filter - they just don't say that in the marketing. The Deluxe has the connectors you need. Look at the pictures at Newegg and you can see what's included.
