Why would an airline allow the show to tape some of this stuff. Like right now Southwest is overbooked by 53 people on one flight, that can't be good for publicity. I know overbooking can happen, but by that much?
yeah, overbooking is standard in the airline industry. it just ensures that all their flights are full, and if u get bumped usually u can catch the next flight first class or they will give a free fare the next time. i usually get to my flight and give up my seat and get some nice benefits for doing so.
Its free advertisement for Southwest and most of the situations are solved professionaly. Those counter worker and their supervisor did a pretty good job handling difficult problem.

im just glad the airline industry is still around.
I was watching that show too, some funny stuff on there. But dang, that job would suck at times. Lotsa crazy people getting all pissed at you, and most of the time cause they screwed up.
