OK say that you where leaving earth at one million miles an hour. How long would it take to get to Jupiter?

(I just bought season 1 to 7 of Stargate)

Well, relativity comes into effect and I don't recall the eqn's off the top of my head, so...I can't say.

So when it took jack teal'c an hour to get to jupiter They greatly exaggerated how long it would really take.

One million miles per hour is only 278 miles per second. The speed of light is 186,000 miles per second, so any relativistic effects would be very small.

Actually, a quick chekc indicates that relativity does NOT come into effect at such low speeds, so let's do some basic math:

Distance from earth to jupiter: 370 million miles

1 million miles per hour

370 hours

15 days, 10 hours.

The speed of light is rather slow once you even start considering traveling to our neighbors, and that's 670 616 629 mph. 1,000,000 mph is really slow.
Stargate is much faster :)

Well they where in a modded death glider. (Alot slower than the stargate)

SG1 is far better, much more variety than find the zpm week after week... Atlantis is still good imo though. If you are very familiar with other scifi, you should notice a lot of stuff in SG1 resembles other shows and movies :)

SG-1 in in it's 8th season and Atlantis has had more of the budget since it will eventually replace SG-1, so pay more attention to the plots and less to the FX IMO userman :)

Theres just something about sg1 that i dont like. maybe its the sending 4 people into a hostile world armed only with a couple m9s and mp5/p90s. And then having the marine sg teams bail them out when sg1 gets captured. (plus the marines have saws and m4s)

I know there are episode where they have more people but 90% of the time its just 4 people.

Edit its a cool show but i would have to send more people in if i was running the place.

The government is cheap. All of the SG teams only have 4 or 5 people.
