Watching Silent Hill

Man, what a letdown this movie was. The movie wasn't scary at all, the bad guys were laughable, and the plot was drawn out. What kind've mother brings her kid to a town called Silent Hill that still suffers from underground fires and toxic smoke in the middle of the night? Hide and Seek was more interesting than this, and that says a LOT. A couple plusses from the movie is the scenery is excellent, and it sounds great in surround sound. It was just disappointing because this could've been a great movie.

It was a video game movie, so I hope you weren't expecting much going into it.

There were some cool environments/effects and a good bit of material from the games, but that's about it. The acting is so bad it will make you laugh, yet the movie is taking itself very seriously the whole time.

Yeah, but the game had the type of atmosphere that could've transferred well onto the big screen. Ah well, with the movies these days I usually expect a letdown

i actually go on to say its one of the best video game to movie adaptations, up there with the first Mortal Kombat for being so true to the game. Resident Evil: Apocalypse was a great movie too, much better than the first RE movie.

silent hill is easily and obviously an artsy-atmospheric thriller, and not a horror movie. I couldn't even see the intention that it was meant to be a horror movie. The movie's atmosphere is the star of the screen, as it as meant to be. The artsy feel and direction is the strong point. To me, the characters were believeable at times. The cop wasn't believeable, but the mom seemed fairly believeable, in the sense that is like what a real person would act like in the circumstances. Normal people don't act like the people in movies. The creepier characters towards the end are the most believeable though, including the religious woman, the one accused of being a witch, and the girl.
Very good movie, and incredible ending. Looking forward to the second and third movie.
