I'd hate to see the pins after getting hit by a bowling ball going that fast.

How far away is the batter when the bowler throws the ball?

22 yards (20.12m)

Congrats. He's throwing slightly slower than a fast MLB pitcher, with a longer distance to throw (which means more time for the batter to react).

Don't they get a running start too? The "bowler" that is.

he might be fast but what counts is accuracy and control. Which is why Akhtar will never be a great fast bowler and why McGrath pwns everyone else.

btw, Australia FTW

Yes but with spin in the air plus the fact the ball reacts after it hits the ground just before it reaches the batsman, it's not exactly child?s play. That and it's easier to throw faster MLB style than restricted over shoulder cricket style.

Not quite that simple... the ball undergoes a rather drastic change in trajectory by the time it gets to the batsman. IIRC, it was estimated that a batsman has about 0.4 seconds to react when facing someone like Akhtar.

FWIW, Shoaib would be more successful if he had the kind of support McGrath has.

Cricket balls are smaller, heavier and much harder than baseballs.

Not that that matters much with regards to the difficulty of hitting them, but being hit by one at 150km/h is a potentially lethal experience.

Yeah, the Australian fielding is brilliant ;)

Good game today tho, Gale was on fire for quite a while and looked very dangerous :)

You see, the bowler hurls the ball toward the batter who tries to play away a fine leg. He endeavors to score by dashing between the creases, provided the wicket keeper hasn't whipped his bails off, of course.
