I am connecting my sisters DVD player to a TV using a Dell Laptop. It connects perfectly as i see the desktop on the screen. Now i put in a DVD and it plays fine on the laptop, but not at all on the tv. I am using WinDVD and win98SE. It says Macrovision detection not found. What is this? Is there a workaround? Help?

Thanks.

What video chipset is the laptop using? On some you need to set the TV as primary display in order to watch DVD; in advanced display properties.

Not exactly sure, but i think it is the ati rage mobile pro. Its in a dell inspiron 3700. Fairly new. What threw me was that a warning message came up and said it did not detect the "hardware" needed to run it on a television. When running a dvd on it, the screen where it is playing on the laptop shows up black on the television. It shows the software controller. Same in fullscreen.

#1) Do you have this in ANY way hooked through a VCR? Or is this a TV / VCR Combo?
A: The DVD Consoritum is pushing this Macrovision crap which essetially does not allow a DVD player to be attached through a VCR. My brother's new console Toshiba DVD player has it. Essentially, you must attach the DVD out cable DIRECTLY to the TV or through an RF modulator device (about $30 at Radio Shack).

#2) Is this Supposed to be hardware DVD? Dell does have a Hardware DVD solution which requires a PCMCIA card to be in the system during playback for TV out purposes.

Have you selected the primary and 2ndary display in the display settings? Your TV should be set as primary display.

Dameon:

It is going straight to the tv. I am not sure about it being a hardware dvd. She selected (dells build your own feature online) what she wanted and it does not mention anything about this. Also, none of the wonderful documentation even mentions using the television as the display. I used a friends at school who had his geforce set up like that, and thats how i figured part of it.

Eug: Ill go try that now.. I played with the setting earlier, but no luck...
