Watching DS9

DS9 was a wonderful series. It could be serious without being depressing, unlike a certain other Ron B. Moore production.

Every sci-fi fan should at least see the highlight episodes, even if that boils down to "the entire Dominion War arc".😛

garak = best character

Garak: Why is it no-one ever believes me even when I'm telling the truth?

Bashir: Have you ever heard the story about the boy who cried wolf?

Garak: No.

Bashir: It's a children's story about a young shepard boy who gets lonely
while attending his flock, so he cries out to the villagers that a wolf is
attacking the sheep. The people come running, but of course there's no
wolf. He claims that it's run away and the people praise him for his
vigilance.

Garak: Clever lad! Charming story.

Bashir: I'm not finished. The next day the boy does it again and the next two
and on the fourth day a wolf really comes. The boy cries out to the top of his
lungs, but the villagers ignore him and the boy and his flock are gobbled up.
Garak: That's a little graphic for children, wouldn't you say?

Bashir: But the point is; if you lie all the time nobody's going to believe
you, even when you're telling the truth.

Garak: Are you sure that's the point, doctor?

Bashir: Of course. What else could it be?

Garak: That you should never tell the same lie twice.

It really kicks off in season 3.
The defiant is a great vessel.
It has only one weakness, though...

Season 3, episode 23 - family business

Weird situation. 😱

Mother : "Oh Rom, you look well..."
Rom : "And you look... Dressed ?"

Other Ferengi : "Your mother is wearing clothes !"

Quark : "Mother, get undressed this instant !"

I think we all are happy we are not Ferengi.

Weird? More like awesome. The Ferengi make for some of the most interesting characters. They're bizarre, but consistently so. See: Blue and Orange Morality

i miss this show. shame we never got a movie. i hated the bajoran crap early on kai opaka and all that stuff but S3 was good and 4 onwards was awesome!

B5

"Did we just win?"

When you need a character to ask that question something is wrong with your great climactic finish.

As with TNG, DS9 had a pre beard and post beard phase. The post beard phase is when shit gets serious.

Is the beard phase when they realized no one gives a shit about Kira or the Bajorans so here is some Dominion instead?

Because never has a show been so bi-polar for me. I hate early episodes that try to make Kira or the Bajorans sympathetic characters. By season 3 I was rooting for their re-enslavement just to shut them up and keep their pathetic religious asses out of the Federation.

Then the Dominion came around and we have some of the best plot points in any Star Trek.

I am at season 6, episode 5 now. I do have to say General Martok is also a cool character. Never was i more happy to see Klingons. Time for a plate of fresh GAGH. I did notice that klingon food has names that would be the sound you make after looking at that food and realizing you have to eat it. RAGHT, GAGH... 😵
Anyway, Qapla'.

If if doesnt have Kirk in it, its not Trek.

(disclaimer: not all shows containing kirk are Trek.)

There is an episode in DS9 where they go back in time to prevent a bombing attack on Kirk. They used original video material and the original (young) Kirk even has a conversation with O'brien. They are all dressed similar as the trekkies in the original star trek.

It's the Tribble (sp?) episode, which is even better. I actually just hit it a couple of days ago when I had DS9 going on in the background.

S5E6, Trials and Tribble-ations

Started watching the Firefly's again last nite, just never was a DS9 fan.

*Runs away fast*

Yeah the old original Star Trek ones they recently put out on BluRay I love though, have been watching those too off and on.

They are almost like watching them all over again.

Kirk is called Uncle Bill in the house, is funny I know his nephew and have heard a few good stories. We were over at their house having dinner and his wife asked him to tell the wine glass story, the glasses we were drinking out of he'd bought for their wedding. Was pretty cool.

The wife and I joke about it whenever we see him somewhere on TV.

Is almost like the old Slugbug thing, "It's Uncle Bill !!! " *punch*

DS characters had such depth... they're all so unique in their own ways is what makes the show awesome. What I really enjoyed was that each character had developing relationship with another that was fun to watch when they had exchanges such as:
Garek with Bashir
Bashir with O'Brien
Odo with Quark/Kira
Dax with Sisko/Worf
Jake with Sisko/Nog

oh and it had the Defiant which was such a departure from your usual Trek ships. I got giddy everytime they took her out cause it was gonna get real. 😛

That would be great to have a famous uncle. For some reason, William Shatner seems to me like a really nice relaxed guy.
