Dexter on Showtime is obviously a premium channel.
Is it legal to post it online to watch?
Do they have some type of licensing agreement or is it pirated?
I ask because I want to cancel Showtime but I don't want to miss Dexter. I also don't want to cancel Showtime and then find out it can't be shown online any more.
Dexter

Might cancel HBO too. Month after month everything is the same on them. Old movies I could stream off of Netflix for $10 a month (versus $36). I pay $432 a year to watch Dexter, Weeds and Entourage. I could just buy the DVDs at the end of the season and save $312.

It is illegal.

edit: Although showtime sometime post the latest episode up for viewing for certain amount of time. Those are legal. But it is illegal for site to provide viewing to like the first season online.

I usually "see" the show and then I'll buy the DVDs when they come out. Not exactly free and clear, but it's my way of "atonement." I think the only show like that where I don't own the DVDs is Weeds, which I'm going to purchase. Sad part is I never even watch the DVDs... it's 10x more convenient for me to have them on my computer. Although British shows tend to toss a monkey into the wrench... no real reason to buy DVDs I can't even play.

You can accidentally stumble upon it and not get into trouble, however uploading it for others to use is illegal. (I think, well that is the rule for CP I believe)

Yeah... that's definitely not legal. I'll just wait for season 3 to come out on DVD, and get it from Netflix.

Netflix has it with their Watch Instantly service. I don't think they have the latest season yet though.

Were you just watching or hosting?

I think bit torrents cover both sides of that.

I'll never understand why someone would download a TV show from a premium channel via BitTorrent. Seriously, while working IT at a college, I believe I never saw complaints come from a major network, but you better damn well believe we had calls from HBO and Showtime about people downloading their TV shows. I had to go up to this one frat boy's room and delete any illegal material off of his PC (he was caught downloading Entourage). But being the nice guy I am, I left his porn and movies alone :p.

Also, by golly gee, make sure you at least use a blacklist IP Filter for your torrent client.

There's only one episode left this season. You are really so desperate to cancel showtime that you can't wait until sunday?

I dont watch HBO online, but fox and CBS(?) have a free site to watch recent shows, hulu.com. The only thing is there are 15-30 second commercials peppered through the show, but not nearly as bad as regular TV.

I watch Fringe, Life, Terminator, etc, on there. Much better than regular TV. (They also have some older movies with commercials)

Yes, but for $10/month - I essentially have almost unlimited access to recent tv shows, movies, music, and software...not a bad deal.

In about a year. For 12 weeks. Which means you only have to be paying for ~3 months then, and nothing until next fall. You only need to pay $50 or so to watch dexter, assuming you are paying $18/month for showtime.

Edit: And if they let you watch it on demand like in past seasons, you can just subscribe for one month or week and catch up on demand.
