Watching a DVD playing on one computer from another?

Ok, I want to watch a DVD in bed on my laptop. However, only my desktop has a DVD player so I have to play it on there.

Is there a way for me to "stream" that DVD playing on my desktop onto my laptop?

you can share the dvd drive like you would share any folder over the network
Simplest yet most effective. Even if you don't have a network you can just share your drive and connect to it over LAN.

If you need step by step instructions, I do accept Paypal.

I've always done the share-DVD drive thing, but how does VLC factor in here? Does it just do the same thing as a share but you have to have it on both machines?

just surprised by the fact that his laptop doesn't have a dvd drive. But rocadelpunk suggested the op has one of those ultraportables and that would make sense.

you don't have an outlet near your bed? on a lot of laptops the screens are dimmed when it is not plugged in, granted it is just a power saving scheme setting, but not everyone knows that it is an adjustable setting.

is that realistic? I basically treat the battery as an UPS for my transition from outlet to outlet.

On my old Dell e1405, I had the 9 cell battery. I could get 5-6 hours on that. My new Dell M1330 has the 6 cell battery and I get 3-4 hours.
