XCLUSIVE: There will be a change at the helm of Showtime's flagship drama Dexter for its upcoming sixth season. The series' executive producer Scott Buck has been named new showrunner. He will succeed Chip Johannessen, who ran the show last season. Dexter's fifth season, which concluded on Sunday, ranks as the highest-rated season of the drama series to date, averaging more than 5 million viewers per week on TV and on-demand. And while Johannessen is well regarded, the feeling was that Buck, who had been on the show since the second season, serving as No.2 to Johannessen and previous showrunner Clyde Phillips, was ready to take the reins of the series, which landed several Golden Globe and SAG nominations this week. Buck also has had great rapport with the show's writers, all of whom are returning next season. Buck joined Dexter at the beginning of Season 2 as a co-executive producer and was upped to executive producer at the beginning of Season 4. He has written or co-written the last three season finales, including the one that aired on Sunday. Before Dexter, WME-repped Buck was a writer/producer on HBO's Six Feet Under.

Do you now have the urge to hunt down criminals who have escaped justice and dismember them?
Good.
Dexters work is done.

nflx ftw. No commercials and no cliff hangers lol. TV series are best enjoyed this way

Weeds is also great fyi.

weeds is NOT great at all anymore, it is actually fucking TERRIBLE.

season 1 and 2 were cool, then it started to go downhill from there, and it is just so fucking bad now that i can't even describe how bad it is.

Just wait until you get to the season 5 police "procedurals." Gaping HUGE plotholes that make you think Miami Metro is the dumbest, most incompetent police force in the nation.

I agree. I watched season 1 and 2 and thought it was a great show. I made it a couple episodes into season 3 and got bored and stopped watching it.

I picked up Dexter about a year and a half ago and got hooked and watched all 3 seasons up to that point over a couple of weekends. Seasons 4 was good, season 5 was okay but I feel like it dipped a bit.

Season 1 was awesome. The season with John Lithgow was really good as well.

Weeds got so horrible I couldn't even watch it anymore. That show started great then faded fast

That happened when I watched Season 1; I started it one night and I could not stop; ended up staying up until 1:00 AM on a work night watchign the show, then watched another one in the morning before work. Was so freaking good. I haven ot watched past Season 2 though.

dexter is incredibly consistent IMO. It has never really slipped in quality. I've been unsure about every guest star they've had, but every one has turned out amazing.

I watched a quick clip recently, I think it was with Johannessen, saying by wrapping up season 5 without a cliffhanger they can basically do whatever they want to start next season. Seems promising

As said, seasons 1 and 4 are by far the best thus far. Season 5 wasn't very good...until the final couple episodes. They took too long to get to any real action, especially with Johnny Lee Miller who was outstanding in the show.

Yep, the wife and I got infected with the Dexter bug on a Saturday afternoon. By the end of that week we had watched all of seasons 1 and 2, including staying up late on work nights to watch episodes until 1am. Then we started to get the season three discs in our Netflix queue, but we would watch the whole disc and need more, so we got disc 2 from Blockbuster while waiting for disc 4. That happened until we finally finished all of season 4. We don't have Showtime, but have agreed to take a break until season 5 comes out on Netflix/Blockbuster.

I miss Doakes. Probably my favorite out of all the seasons.

I did this once with some shows. I don't think I'll do it again. The last couple times I did that with tv series I had the characters voices and thoughts in my head for a few days like I just went through some kind of trauma 🙂
