Watch this video of an Abrams Tank.

A $10 roadside bomb or even cheaper RPG will still turn it into rubble, don't get me wrong, it's a nice thank, but between airforce and tactics it's next to useless.

Wars don't care for massive gunfire when the crew can be blown to craps with one hit.

A $10 roadside bomb? A cheaper RPG? I wasn't aware RPG's cost less than $10, and you have to be seriously lucky to even hurt a tank with an RPG or a cheap roadside bomb.

Sadly, at $1,000 per bullet, I can't tell WTF he's shooting at.

No it's about 2¢ per machine gun shot and about $25,000 per sabot round fired from the cannon.

(give or take a few $$$, memory does not serve well).

Aww too bad they only shot the machine gun, I wanted to see the big cannon blow something up.

This from one of the tanks in my platoon. You can't really see whats being shot at, but there is people running around.

If you're looking for survivability, then the British tanks are superior.

against what?

against other tanks, the abrams is superior to everything. its firing control systems are amazing - allowing it to maintain accuracy even while on the move, its speed is great (42mph top speed), and due to its turbine engine, its relative silence has earned it the title of "whispering death" 🙂

Sounds like someone speaks with a British tongue. Otherwise you would know better.

Brittish challenger II is the best tank in the world. No exceptions.

The video isn't really worth watching unless you want to watch a very uninteresting round in BF2.

Ill post a more lively one when youtube works. Tis got a T90 in it.

If I remember correctly, the Abrams sacrifices armor for that speed. Its meant to be a big gun that gets there fast and blows everything away. Certainly not to say that its armor is weak, but its not thick. The depleted uranium shells with the barbs that it uses for ammo look pretty wicked. In short its the F-22 Raptor of tanks (or rather the F-22 is the Abrams of jets), intended to kill everything before it has a chance to fight back (although it can certainly hold its own against nearly any other tank). Not a bad plan, however I think the army is looking into going with an even more simplified version of this idea, with an even better gun on an even lighter and faster vehicle. I think Future Weapons showed one that was essentially a sniper rifle, where it would shoot from farther away from the target and then be gone before the round hit. I believe it could also shoot several projectiles (at several targets) in short succession, where the computer adjusts the angle of the canon so that the rounds hit their targets at roughly the same time.

Actually, it's not that quiet. The damn turbine engine is not quiet at all, having been around quite a few of them, I can tell you they're anything but quiet. Maybe the moniker is associated with the whinning noise it makes.

It'd have to be a lucky shot for an RPG to take out an Abrams...

You're crazy man. Abrams and the Israeli tank are about even at #1, British challenger 2 is after them.

that best tanks (most advanced and all) are considered the abrams and possibly the merkava tank. the russian T-72 was also a very good tank.
