kinda hard to kill something that never existed inst it:confused:

That is one of the author's stated intentions behind his writing the trilogy. He was upset over the Christian subtext in the Narnia novels.

In a 2003 interview he said, "My books are about killing God" and in a 2001 interview he said that he was "trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief."

 the guy is a coward and pussy.

So why just Christian beliefs? i would love to see him try this with Islam, but he wont because he is a pussy. he can pick on Christian beliefs because he know nothing is going to happen to him.

Well, he was brought up christian so is familiar with its hypocrisy... Troll more?

People are hypocrites, not the religion. Troll more?

how do you kill something that isnt real?

you have your belief and i have mine. lets just be happy and paint pretty pictures together.

Citrix, they can't. The atheists seem to voice their beliefs on these boards more than religious people do. Its ironic.

I find the opposite.. but of course, everyone here likes to feign persecution...

actually im just bored at work and wanted to see a good flame war

I'ma go ahead and skip this flick.

The books are actually awesome... I couldn't care less for the religious/anti religious bs, but the trilogy is def top 10 in the books I've read.... I watched the movie last Sat, I was stoked to watch it but was pretty disappointed. I think there is just way too much story/detail to put into a movie successfully.

For those that are against this movie/book/author, have you actually read the books?

i actually have a vested interest in this movie now, thanks! :D
it looked like another narnia, but with pretty faces helping sell the movie. but now i know more, and that 'more' makes it actually somewhat appealing.

This made me think of the movie 'Major Payne' when he unloads his sidearm into the closet after the little boy says he can't sleep because he's afraid of monsters. Weird.

I guess I'm just stupid because I still think that simple disagreement is okay. And that's what it is. If they were disagreeing about any other subject it would be fine, but when it's religion, all of a sudden it's "flaming". If the faithful are really so damn faithful, they need to grow a thicker skin.

Expecting simple disagreement is fine, hardly stupid. I guess you're blind then, because simple disagreement (can I assume "respectful" is included in this definition of "simple"?) isn't what goes on here.

Damned near Evangelical to most.

You don't just magically get respect in this society. We DO NOT respect each other's opinions. We don't respect each other's opinions on sports, on the weather, each other's taste in women, and especially not politics. Why should religion get a free pass?

Because Christianity teaches humility as one of the greatest virtues?

I'm not trolling, but c'mon! You're pushing what you believe (not respecting other opinions, etc). It's called projection, look into it.

You're right, respect is not magically given. I respect your opinion even if I don't agree with it.

90% of the posts in this thread have turned into a religion slugfest. Back on topic, boys?

I read the trilogy when I was little, and absolutely loved it. I'm going to see it ASAP!

If you really respected my opinion you wouldn't have told me I'm wrong. What you respect is my right to have the opinion. That's something we can agree on.

And who cares what Christianity teaches? Using that as an argument gives Christianity credence before the issue has even been discussed. It assumes that everyone acknowledges Christianity as a good source of values.

I still don't get how I'm projecting my beliefs on people. I'm describing objective reality. Please point out where I have lied. Point out the parts where I just started making stuff up. Point out the parts where I cite unprovable texts or personal revelation through prayer. Then maybe you can put my version of reality on the same footing as a Christians.

Everyone "projects". You can't express yourself without "projecting" your opinions. Can you imagine entertainment without "projecting"? Oh wait, I guess you can. It's called nearly everything on television. So yes, let's not "project" our opinions upon others. Let's just live perfectly respectful, banal lives of mediocrity. Oh there I go "projecting" again. I'll never learn...

I LOVED the books as well, even read them twice which i've never done with any other book... i didnt enjoy the movie very much, I think there is too much detail to fit into a 2 hour movie, they also changed some of the ending....

again, have you guys that are discussing this work read the actual books?

the Muslim fanatics are doing a good enough job at that already

he isn't a Muslim fanatic, he is a atheist and God is God right? so again why do atheist only pick on Christian beliefs?

but is it really only against christians though? i haven't watched it yet, but i'm under the impression from what i've read its just against religion/religious authority in general.

as for the film, atleast from jonathan ross's review its ok, but not great apparently. so maybe film 2-3 can pull it off hopefully. supposedly there were issues with directors leaving and coming back, and perhaps the studio trying to tone down the religious stuff which might have messed with the film.

you fundies have it wrong - the movie does NOT entail kids killing God.

the BOOK is about questioning religious authority. Zealots are worried that the kids will like the movie and then the parents will go and buy the book for the kids, which will cause the kids to think for themselves.

God forbid.

I'm an Atheist and I watched the Chronicles of Narnia (I also read the books) I like this kind of genre so I will definately rent the Golden Compass when it comes out. Man I'm glad my beliefs don't prevent me from enjoying a good Movie or Book. that would suck if it did. Of course if it did I probably wouldn't believe in them.

Of course since I stated I'm an Atheist you know how I feel about all religion so there's no need for me to type it out.
