Watch repair, cost?

How much would it cost to have a watch repaired. It does not tick anymore. It's a quartz movement watch, NOT automatic.

Also, would the watch repair shop be able to buff out some scratchs, etc?

I'm guessing it would depend on the watch. Full service for my automatic is ~$500 and they do buff out scratches; it comes out looking absolutely brand new.

Most likely it just needs a battery. Generally it's not worth repairing inexpensive quartz movements - obviously that will depend on what the watch is (because it certainly WOULD be worth repairing, say, a quartz Omega or Breitling). A watchmaker can definitely buff out minor scratches in the case, and it shouldn't cost more than $20-30. Scratches on an acrylic (i.e., plastic) crystal can be buffed out, but not those on a mineral glass crystal (I am assuming we're not talking about a sapphire crystal).

krunchykrome, I've gotta know, do you get soggy in milk?

Do you cut the roof of people's mouths like captain crunch?

It's a vintage Omega, so I think it would be worth it to get it restored if I could get it done for under $300.

If you send it to bienne then service on a Quartz should be around $300 or a little more, if you send it somewhere locally then to just change a battery it will be alot less. OMega has prices for service listed on their site in the FAQ I believe though you might have to convert them to USD.

Remember that parts are not included in a service estimate so if they need to replace anything it will cost more. And you are better off sending it back to Switzerland as the US service center is pretty bad for Omega.

Check www.timezone.com and their Omega forum, they are alot of help.

😕 Bored at work?

quite.

Edit: Seriously though, should just any jewler be able to buff out scratches, etc? I have one of those super hard crystals on the face of my seiko, and I've still managed to get a few nicks in it. 😱

Negative. Your Seiko has a mineral glass crystal that can't be repaired (though it can be replaced fairly cheaply).
