Check this out........

<< A Taiwanese website is selling streams of new and classic Hollywood movies for $1 -- in clear violation of international copyright agreements, American intellectual property advocates, government officials and copyright lawyers all say.

The site, movie88.com, is streaming thousands of American movies, from Legally Blonde to Judgment at Nuremberg, as well as a number of Japanese and Chinese films. A $1 fee buys three days of unlimited access to RealVideo versions of each title.

Movie88.com starts each user account with $5, so the first five films are free.

See the rest of the article here.

I just finished watching The Fifth Element.....quality wasn't the best.....but for free....who cares.

Just hypothetically... how would one go about capturing these if one were of a mind to. Hypothetically of course...

Hmmm... I know of a bunch of sites where you could find better quality versions of more current movies if you did not mind being "in clear violation of international copyright agreements" ;)

This is interesting from a story standpoint... but a hot deal? You be the judge...

BTW, if you are a "Friends" fan, they have lots of past episodes :p

PS- Kindly stop sending me PMs asking me what sites I am referring to... there is more than enough information in other posts to point you to some of the file sharing resources available should you be so inclined.

I just singed up with Intertainer. It is a service for $7.99/month you get to watch Music Video, TV shows, Cartoons and some discovery type shows and some other sutff. For a few bucks a piece you can watch movies. The movies are as new as what you can get on Pay-per-View right now.

I signed up to try it and I like it. I have my laptop off to the side and I have watched a bunch of videos and a few Saturday Night Live specials. Pretty cool but you must have a 500 kbps throughput (no phone modems).

I wouldn't want to contribute to the destruction of this site by helping people hack and download the movies. Fact is, even if u used packet sniffers etc and somehow figured out how to download the stuff... its not really worth the bandwidth you would waste. The quality is not that great. Its just 1 buck a movie, so why not help them make enough money so they can effectively resist RIAA or MPAA or whoever goes after them.

I am saying this assuming they are within their legal rights to run this site... and not doing anything illegal. As far as the Slashdot article goes, they say that the IP law is different in Taiwan.

If you would be unethical enough to watch pirated movies for a buck (50 cents for 3 stooges shorts!), then you are unethical enough to download the movies from edonkey200.com for free.

this is expensive actually, for example, for tv sitcom FRIENDS, you can go and the rent the dvd, which has the whole seasons, for 3 or 4 dollar. at movie88, you have to pay lots more to see a low quality version. maybe .10/movie make more sense.

if you don't mind watching only 5 movies... then it would be free
and don't have to enter your CC.

They deposit $5 in you account after you make a username and password (not even email address)

I haven't tested the movies out to see how good they are.

i wish i could get episodes of the family guy, that shows as funny as the simpsons, but fox was dumb enuff to put it opposite of Friends, so now they are cancelling it. ironically friends might not be back next season either.
