Happy Friday. A new set of ads recently went live, featuring NY Yankees latest asset Ichiro Suzuki throwing baseballs from home plate, into a garbage can far in outfield. The amazing throws are being used in ads for Yunker, an energy drink marketed towards Japan’s league of salarymen to combat fatigue. Impressive!

I can't say for sure if it's real or fake, but one thing I do notice when it comes to these types of videos is that the fake ones usually do not show the ball traveling the entire time.

Notice how the ball is thrown and ends up out of the frame of the picture. And then only at the end when it goes into the trash can does the ball reappear in the frame.

I feel that fake videos do this so it's easier to alter the clip.

edit: Not only that, but why would the camera person be so shaky when zooming in on the trashcan at the end? He literally dips the camera down at the last few seconds.

This isnt' 1998. CG has come an AMAZING way. Did you know that 50-70% of plain backgrounds in shows are CG? (streets of New York, etc). I gotta dig up that youtube vid that was popular in Reddit.

Even the most unexpected uneventful scenes like the streets of NY are all CGI. Actors pretty much act in a set full of green screens and just few foreground objects (car, lamp post, etc). Then they superimpose the streets of NY. Then it looks like they're 100% seamlessly shot in NYC.

I have not watched the video yet, but I have watched Suzuki play here in Seattle since 2001 when he came into the league. If there is someone who could do something like this, it is Ichiro. He has made perfect throws to get someone out at third or home in a game, so I don't see why he couldn't do it with unlimited takes.

Or it could be faked for ease and time of course, just sayin...

Knowing some of the trick Ichiro used to do pre-game, this really isn't that far fetched. Nothing he did in the video was that impossible. I'm sure it took multiple takes, but he has the arm to do that.

imo ball travel time wasn't long enough for all 91m = 300ft = fake.

besides, even if he did trial and error, he'd have thrown out his arm by then... somewhat costly.
