Wife called me she just purchased a watch at a reputable store (authorized dealer) at the Mall of America (Minnesota).

She was told that it was returned by a customer hence the discounted price.
They offer a 1 year warranty, 90 day return if you change your mind policy.
The watch has no papers.

Based on the serial number its was manufactured in 2005.
She paid $4000 dollars for this, she really likes the watch and have no intention of reselling it. Supposedly comes with a better band.

I am re-assured that it was bought from a big jewelry store in the mall that I dont think will be going anywhere soon.

Tried researching on the price but cant get any info if this was a good deal or not.

LADY-DATEJUSTOyster, 26 mm, steel

Automatic

Question #1 good deal as long as she is happy?
Question #2 How to verify authenticity/service history

We have 30 days to return it so we have time to research.

FYI she has been bugging me for watch for a while now. We got married 19 years ago, and the only watch she ever wore is our hers and his Tag Heurs when we got married. She originally wanted a Cartier but I dont like the fancy look and vibe they give out.

She called asking for re-assurance on th purchase I told her that as long as she is happy with the purchase dont worry about it.

Now I am seeking reassurance from the watch Gurus to give me peace of mind.

Thanks

Take it to another authorized Rolex dealer unaffiliated with the first store and let them look it over.

You bought a $4k watch at a mall and want to know if it was a good deal? Of course not.

One way would be simply to contact Rolex and have them verify.

A quick and dirty way would be to take it to a pawn shop and have them verify.

Thanks for the advice, as mentioned we have 90 days to return it, will have another jewelry store check it out while they are still in the cities.

Not sure how Rolex will verify this without us sending it over for servicing.
No good pawn shops where I live (rural), I wouldnt trust them opening the watch to verify parts.

The store is Ben Bridge Jeweler, to guy commenting about buying it in a Mall where else could you look at watches and buy them? Ebay

I asked a pawn shop owner how he verifies Rolexes. After giving me a laundry list of items he checks for, he mentioned that with the really tough ones, he just contacts Rolex with the serial number.

hahahaaa...your asking what where...advice about what here???

Muahahahaaaaa.....

I would check with Quaker Oats......or Kelloggs......

Rolex will only verify watches by sending them in. You can however go to a local Rolex store and they will tell you if they feel its real. Ben Bridge is a reputable Rolex dealer, price is the only thing.

Thank you, I think I made my wife doubt her purchase by asking her to show the watch to other stores.

Is there a place to check what reasonable prices for these type of watches are.

I tried EBAY but do not think that is reliable.

Is there an edmunds or kelly blue book for watches?

EDIT found a site to trade in ROLEX

http://www.bobswatches.com/used-rolex-prices

watch lists $3000 trade in so I guess $4000 is not too bad considering reputable store/90 day exchange and 1 year warranty.

You just have to shop around, check your PM. 😉 You can get a general idea based on the year, condition, the model etc. ebay is fine, just check under sold listings, but you have to make sure you are looking at one identical to hers. Changing things to aftermarket hurts the value, this could be things like bezels, adding diamonds etc.
