I would go with a P4C and an 875P or 865PE board instead. I don't like the Asus 875P boards but the Gigabyte ones (GA-8KNXP/GA-8IK1100) are very nice. This a prebuilt machine or you doing it yourself?

Mwave is my personal favorite. Super fast shipping, good customer service, and pretty good prices too. I know Newegg is a personal favorite around here. Always have good prices. Another place I like it Googlegear.

I think these are all great online shops, but I see a potential problem... I am assuming that since he asking about a system price in Australian dollars, that he is likely from Australia, and these places will not ship internationally. I have no answer however for good online shops that do ship or are located in Australia.

For a pre-built in A$ thats not too bad. As it is prebuilt you can't customise it too much unless you are actually specifying it yourself. Keep in mind that a 3.06 is about $800 when you could get a 2.6 for half that. Otherwise, go for a board with the 875p or 865pe chipset with one of the new P4c processors. Much more efficient power/money ratio.
Like I mentioned, a 2.6 will cost you $400 less, money which could be used to grab some high quality ram or a vid card upgrade for much better performance.

Depending on your location is Aus try www.umart.com.au for very good pricing. As for an online Aus site, damn! I am still trying to find one...

This is what I would propose for that amount of A$

Since yours is prebuilt you may not be able to get the same prices.

P4 ASUS P4P800 Deluxe Intel 865PE Motherboard $288.00
P4 Gigabyte 8IG1000Pro Intel 865G Motherboard $249.00
or any decent brand name 865 board.

Intel S478 Pentium 4 2.6GHZ 800MHZ FSB CPU $413.00

DDR 512MB TWINX-3200 (400MHz) DDR RAM Corsair $295.00

Radeon 9500 128M Pro Powered By ATI $387.00
Winfast Geforce4 DDR 128MB 8XAGP Ti4200 $290.00

That makes approx. $1300 (averaging the ones where I provide 2 options)

Monitor $400 approx
Keyboard and Mouse $100
DVD $70
Burner $100
XP Home $350
HD $200
Case $100
Floppy $30
Sound built in to Motherboard
Speakers $60

Total: $2700

Note that this does not include installation. If you want to save money go for
17 inch monitor at $250
Kingmax RAM at 2 * 256 = $160 (make sure you get 2 rams to support dual channel)
Cheaper Vid Card at $200
Pentium 2.4c at $340

All this should make a very capable gaming machine for what you are spending (almost identical to the one I am purchasing soon). People feel free to comment or add/remove suggestions...

Heh just went to www.dansdata.com. Not to bad at all, think he's a bit crazy but hey who cares :) But the main thing was the Aus site he links to which is good as I have been looking for an Australian supplier for a while! jdmullet... go to dansdata.com and follow the links to AusPC Market. Decent prices, decent selection (well for Australians anyway)
