I think that a lot of us older forum members here have a collection of old computer parts and games that are worthless now.
Seriously, when was the last time I used a mouse with a PS/2 plug, or installed Quake 2 off of a CD-ROM? Why am I still keeping this crap?
I went through a big purge when I started my family, and have gone through several ever since. Saw my friend's houses with kids, always looked like a tornado had hit lol. Outside of my odd assortment of useless now-vintage computer parts, the first thing to go were the Legos...now we just have Minecraft everywhere...on the tablet, on the TV, in the VR system. I haven't stepped on a Lego in nearly two years now
Next thing was the art supplies...got sick of cleaning marker off the cabinets, watercolor paints out of the carpet, etc. The iPad with the pressure-sensitive pen is a minor miracle...drawing apps with a variety of digital media, coloring-book apps, letter-tracing apps, done. No more mess! Too much screentime tho
Digitized all the other crap I could. Got a big flat screen TV, a Roku, and a Plex server. Copied the music, movies, and photo into the digital realm. Scan & shred all my paper mail. It's soooooo nice not having crap everywhere. Everything else gets managed by "bin technology" - bins for stuff animals, toy cars, etc. If the bin starts overflowing, then it's time to do a purge & donate to Goodwill. Keeps things clean & easy to manage!
