To clarify, I'm saying I finish under 10% of games, not that under 10% of gamers do.

Just checked my stats - yup, that's correct.

I've been not finishing games 10 years ago as well.

It's not surprising to me someone didn't finish Wasteland like it was to you.

My comment wasn't specific to you, but to your assertion that "Many of us rarely finish games, under 10%." as if this were the norm. A single outlier does not make (or break) a trend.

And my comment about 10 years ago was very specific in that (a) ten years ago the industry and market was much smaller. With fewer games and fewer gamers, the 'Average' consumer base was probably more dedicated to the past-time and the percentage of completion (both in number of games and percent of content) was probably significantly higher than it is today. with more casual gamers comes fewer completions. And (b) that the general assumption that games as a whole are completed less and less can be sub-divided into genres. And I would be willing to bet that the completion rate of RPGs is significantly higher than for other types of games.

And again, your preferences/experiences (which may be an outlier to the general trend) do not necessarily disprove the trend. So the claim "I do XYZ" doesn't follow that Everyone does XYZ.

I missed a lot of good games when they first came out, Wasteland being one of them. I didn't have as much money for games when I was younger so I had to be selective, and I also could play the crap out of a couple of games and not desire any other... I missed out on System Shock 1, only came to that series with System Shock 2. I didn't get around to Fallout 1 + 2 until 2000, same with StarCraft, lost 2 years on that. Does a person get grandfathered in and treated better on something like this if they were actively PC gaming at the same time Wasteland 1 came out, but were just playing other stuff? 🙂
