Wasteland is a post-apocalyptic rpg that was released in the late 80's. I'm sure many of you have heard about it before. It was critically acclaimed and today it’s a beloved classic. But despite its success, it never had a sequel. But it might get one in the near future.

Brian Fargo CEO of Inxile and publisher of Wasteland is trying to get public funding for Wasteland 2, the same way Double Fine successfully did with their kick starter project. Many of people that worked on the game more than 20 years ago have already been hired to work on Wasteland 2. One of the many notable hires includes Mark Morgan who did the soundtracks for Fallout 1/2 and Planescape: Torment.

After listening to what the fans had to say, they updated their tiers a little bit.

Thanks but no thanks. I wish them luck but I've been snookered far too many times to give a game developer money before any demo or even any real info.

Awesome..yet this one might be a bit tough to get funding for. $15 really isn't much to lose if the game never sees the light of day.

Fargo and company are a reliable bunch and have a track record of making quality games.

I remember Wasteland. Was a great game. Fallout was supposed to be the "successor" to Wasteland.

If I won the lottery, I think I'd give them $10k just to get myself into a game :)

However, I'll keep an eye on this and see how it progresses. The last *beta* that I dumped money into turned out to be game of the year 2011 for me (Space Pirates And Zombies)

It really isnt. Especially if you been wanting a game like this.

Fargo and company are a reliable bunch and have a track record of making quality games.

I'm also going to trust Mr. Fargo here. If you look at everything they have right now, it's looking pretty promising. They have all hired all of the core team members that worked on the 1988 game. They hired Mark Morgan, compser of Fallout 1/2 and Planescape: Torment to compose music for the game. Not to mention they are listening to their fans.

I remember Wasteland. Was a great game. Fallout was supposed to be the "successor" to Wasteland.

Fargo did wanted to make Wasteland 2 back then but at that time, he didn't have the license. So instead they made Fallout.

Same here.

So far everything they are doing is looking quite promising.

Kind of amusing that he probably would like to make a true Fallout 3, but doesn't have the license so will make Wasteland 2.

That's a novel way to raise money, not to mention 15$ is nothing when you think about it, most people squander a lot more weekly on fast food, coffee, lotto tickets (guilty as charged), cigarettes, etc.

I'll send them 15$ when I get home and the site is accessible.

I remember in the original game there was a locked room you could get into. When you did there was a computer that, when hacked would give a message something like "Ah. Wasteland 2" it was a shameless plug, but hilarious at the time.

I would consider contributing $15 to the cause. I have fond memories of the original and would not have gotten into Fallout series if not for the original. I would like to see what type of approach they are going to take before putting my money down (top down isometric? FP-RPG? Tactical Combat?).

So how do we buy into this. I'm probably dumb but I can't find it on their website.

It's going to be a Kickstarter project, but the project has not been set up yet.

I'm probably going to go for the boxed set since I still have my Wasteland 1 boxed set :)

FYI, they aren't waiting for the funding before starting work:
http://www.nma-fallout.com/

"Brian Fargo: We worked on it at InXile for nearly a year, and so we worked through the storyline, what the life of the ranger is, dialogue structure, social skills, party influence, character stats. We worked through quite a lot of things so we’re not starting at ground zero. We pretty much know the templates, the next step after that was to bring all the writers in, and bring the artists in, and really fill out the meat of the world. That’s the costly part and where we didn’t get anywhere."

It's a great concept but haven't never played the original wasteland I can't say that I am eager to prepay for a sequel.

The original Wasteland is great. It is well worth your time to play it. Here is a link to download it legally (apparently it is "abandonware"): http://www.abandonia.com/games/436/Wasteland

I don't play games much anymore but I am considering paying the 15 to do my little part to assist with development for Wasteland2. The original is the best RPG I have played on the computer. I have played it many times over the years.

Will it run on today's computers without Dosbox? Just curious, because I would definitely play it again. I Have fond memories of that dog.

I would have also loved to see a true Fallot 3, but i don't think that will ever happen.

I never played Wasteland. It came way before my time. But if it's anything like the first two Fallout's then I gladly donate to this game. I'm just trying to decide between the $50 and $100 tier.

It's a great concept but haven't never played the original wasteland I can't say that I am eager to prepay for a sequel.

This whole thing sounds pretty good. I just hope they succeed.

Also looks like the Kickstarter should be coming up really soon.

Loved the original Wasteland. Played it on an Apple and a C64. I'll be sending him some kickstart cash.

EDIT

Oh, and those wanting to snag the $10K donation...

"BrianFargo: Time for us to get the shrine and blood sausage figurine ready... We just got our first $10,000 donation!"

tweeted about 30 min ago.

Never even played the first, but it looks like it would have been a fun game.

I love the direction that kickstarter is taking the gaming industry, and I'll gladly donate a $15.

I went for the collector's edition too, but was tempted to pay up for the in-game character.

Now over $400,000 - woohoo!

I just had to get in on this - I still remember the joy in opening those slim EA/Interplay boxes back in the late 80's and reading and re-reading the manuals when away from my trust Apple II. Bring it on!
