Upgrading from

AMD 64 2.01 GHZ Dual Core
Nvidia 6600GT
1 GB Ram
A8N SLI MOBO
400 W PSU
Windows XP

Thinking of possibly getting this and adding a 5770 video card for like 180 in the upgrade options which would bring the total price to around 680.

I basically just want the extra power to play SC 2 in 1920x1080 at high or ultra setting and to update to newer parts as my computer is around 6 years old. Would also like to play Diablo 3 when it comes out at the same resolution.

Should I be spending more? Is this a bad deal? Would I be better off to build somthing myself?

One thing which turns me off is the DDR 2 ram and mobo. Is that a big deal?

EDIT : Apparently its out of stock/low stock and they are no longer offering the rebate but I was wondering if anyone has any cheap parts/reccomended upgrades in the same price range?

We don't know when d3/SC2 come out and what their requirements will be. If you need computer to play those games, wait until they come out....

This.
Frankly I'd say you should just start saving your pennies and build a new rig when SC2 drops.

On a budget:
Your processor could seriously use replacing, you should be able to drop something faster into your current motherboard if you don't want to do a full replacement. Another gig of RAM would do you well too.
Then get whatever vid card you can afford when your games come out. 😀
