Waste of Money? v. i5-2500k

This is going to sound really dumb, but bear with me.
I bought an Asus desktop that was advertised to have an i5 - 2320 that turned out to be an i5-2310. Not a huge difference, but it has left me bummed that I got stuck with a lesser proc and I find myself looking for deals on upper end i5’s.

I just found that i5-2500k can still be had for $170 from Microcenter in store. My mobo is an Asus P8H61-M-PRO. I might OC if I come across a heavy CPU game that needs it. I play through some console ports, still play MW3 , Skyrim, Fallout 3 & NV regularly.

Will I notice any sort of difference swapping in a 2500k? A few FPS?

You cannot change the CPU multiplier with H61, you can only OC the iGPU.

asy, Real-Time O.C. Tunings
Feel the adrenaline rush of real-time OC-now a reality with the ASUS TurboV. This easy OC tool allows you to overclock without exiting or rebooting the OS; and its user-friendly interface makes overclock with just a few clicks away. Moreover, the ASUS OC profiles in TurboV provides the best O.C. settings in different scenarios.

I originally said you can't overclock with H61 but who the hell knows

Don, my P8H61-M PRO mobo is some Asus OEM special. The regular Bios updates do not work for me. I have to get hem from here:

http://www.asus.com/Desktop/Entertainment/Essentio_CM6730/#download

So I don't think it allows IB procs.

And, if I'm going to do any OC'ing, I'd rather do it with a 2500k and a Cooler Master 212, not the OEM proc.

So this wouldn't be total waste of money to allow for expandibilty in the future?

Before you do anything i'd email asus and see if it supports ivy.

Pretty sure you still can't OC that board, I seem to recall reading about someone else compalining because it seemed to infer that you could when in reality all it gives you is the software to overclock but the hardware is incompatible.
