Duct tape is like The Force: it has a light and dark side and it holds everything together. :p

your title is inaccurate, it only applies to walmart stores, not all stores. It's very likely that they've been ousold at a Home Depot or similar store.

Wow, what a wierd thing to report on.

She thinks every store should stock duct tape in the baby section. Who knows? They just might, said Marlene Munsell, manager of the Wal-Mart.

Ok, the walmart here in town does this kind of crap. Some executive somewhere takes a dump and thinks, oooh, we should put product A here, or B there. Everytime i go into that stuipid place nothing is where i left it. At 1am they liven up as the employees move junk from one place to another, all night long.

LOL

And, I though tree planters are the only ones that have a 101 way of use for duct tape.

:D

then why isn't it "artillery box tape"?

I can answer that for you, G.I.'s used it to seal leaks in thier amphibious transports that they had nicknamed "Ugly Ducks", the name stuck to the tape ;)

Really? So it's "duck tape" no "duct tape"?

Depends on the brand, but yes there is such a thing as DUCK tape:

there is duct tape and duck tape. i thought 'duct' tape was the real thing so that you could fix up leaky furance ducts.

No, I'm not talking about the brand. I'm talking about the tape in general. If it was named after the Duck amphibians, it's not duct tape!

I wish all the stores totals were listed. Our store didn't sell nearly that many but I bet we did at least 4000 rolls from my department.

From this article and others, it just sounds like once the new usage for the tape was found, they just changed the name.

The brand "Duck" tape is a cheap knock-off of duct tape. It doesn't contain the reinforcing cloth that is imbedded in 'real' duct tape. That?s the brand Lowe?s and Home Depot carry and I bet that is what Wall-Mart carries. The old roll of duct tape I have is VERY strong. It is also more metallic than rubbery.

A PX/BX on an Army or Marine Corps installation probably holds the record.

We have a couple of old rolls with the cloth component, I have not seen any like it in stores for a long time.
