So i've had Bank of America for years now, but recently started up a WAMU free checking account to use with paypal and for miscellaneous stuff....

Due to problems with their online site, it took nearly 2 weeks to get the online component working for me.... they kept getting random error codes that their tech support couldnt decypher, and they kept telling me to try again another day... Promised call backs from reps never occurred... After numerous tries, about two weeks after i began, i was finally able to register for the site and access my account online....

Now, the day i signed up, i also ordered checks, which were supposed to be sent within 7-14 business days. Well, its now been almost 6 weeks and still no checks. When i call WAMU, the operator tells me they should arrive anyday, but when in inquire as to the delay, they say thats all the info they have and they can't help.

I'm sorry but this is insane. I've been banking with Bank of America for years now and never had such crappy service. Sure i've had my BOA problems (CC's getting shut off while travelling abroad even though i called), but everytime i've had an issue, they were very quick to resolve it and make things right. WAMU dosen't seem to understand this concept.

I have had Wamu for about 1.5 years, they have really fallen apart lately though. Now they are telling me that Washington Mutual free checking is different than WAMU free checking. WTF!!! What makes it more funny is everything they say the wamu checking has, is in the paper contract thing i signed, so i'm about to move to BOA i'm sick of their crap, now they are charging me for atm fees which they said they don't.

Online works fine for me, but i signed up a year ago, so that may be the case.

Bummer, I was just about to open WM account. Been with Wells Fargo for years, and I'm sick of them always trying to find new ways to swindle another few bucks out of me. The last straw was when they charged me $2 to call them about a mistake they made.

Bank of America works best for me because its free for me if I have a certain amount of $$$ in my savings PLUS they have ATMs everywhere!

I've had wamu for probably 10 years and haven't had a problem with them ever. Just recently opened up two new accounts, saving and checking and they are great. No fee if i overdraft as long as I have funds put in within like...48ish hours. Checks came very quickly, I have full online priveleges, no charge at any wamu atm's.

I have absolutely no issues with them.

I've had WAMU since they moved to my home town.

Move to Ojai, CA where they will treat you like a king.

ATM fees are not from Washington Mutual, but when you use another bank's ATM then that bank charges you for using their ATM.

I have a Wamu and BoA checking account. I only signed up for the BoA checking account to get $50 :p And I've never had problems with my Wamu account :)

We've been with WaMu since they came to Kahleeforneeya about 10 yrs ago, and they've been good to us. FAR fewer problems than we ever had with BofA, FAR fewer "misc. charges" than BofA, and IMO, FAR better customer service.

Had Wamu for 15+ yrs and no problem.
I also have BOA but they recently start charging $5.95 for checking so I closed that.
I know you can bypass that with DD but I don't need DD with WAMU to get it for free.

I had that issue, too. Is it bad to open and close accounts frequently? I have four accounts at WaMu (2 checking, 2 savings). I'm thinking of moving my money elsewhere, too.
