What is the best route to take from Silver Spring, MD to Crystal City. Yahoo and Mapquest give me a route that is straight through downtown. I will making this drive during rush hour.

Any suggestions?
 
lol id stay home.
even tho i live in nova i dont know what to recommend. 495 is guaranteed to suck and i cant imagine how travelling thru the heart of the city would be much better. hopefully someone else has better suggestions 🙂
 
well
what i would do is take 16th street to dupont circle then cut over to 14th street then I would take 14th to 395 South then get off at the Crystal City exit
 
no... take 495 to route 1....

edit: or better take the GW parkway to 395....

It's a beautiful day to drive down the GW parkway

yes 495 sucks major arse

my recommendation take the metro it will save you a lot of headaches

and you can get pretty much anywhere in crystal city because there is a underground mall and it connects to the metro and basically everywhere else

My friend lives around Crystal City, he says this is the way to go, BUT I think this is for non rush hour times.

Since I live in Rockville I usually do the GW Parkway.

Top choices:

1. Take the Metro
2. GW Parkway

Any other way is stupid because you will be stuck in traffic for atleast 1 hour.
 
Ok where can I park and jump on the metro in Silver Spring?

I am going up there on business travel. I have only been to DC once in my life.

They have around 50 short term parking spaces if i remember. at the SS metro station

If you are staying at a hotel that is close by often times they will have a shuttle that you can have take you there and pick you up by talking to the desk. That way you don't have to worry about parking.

Take the metro. You can walk to anyplace in Crystal City from the metro. It's where I work. Feel free to PM me with any questions.
 
Take 495 south and get on the George Washington Memorial Parkway. It's a beautiful drive. That is if you really need your car. If not, I'd take nitsuj3580's advice and take the metro instead.

I would take Rock Creek Pkwy all the way in, go past the Kennedy Center, take Memorial Bridge across the river, then GW Pkwy towards National Airport. Bail at whatever exit works for you.

metro. heh.

I hate 495... i have to leave at 6:30 in the morning so I can get to college park for an 8am class. All because of 270 and 495 westbound. Every minute i'm late, it becomes expotentially longer to get to my destination. It's too bad metro wouldn't be any faster sine I have to go into DC and back out.... where's my purple line dammit!
