Washing machine vibrates...wtf

we just moved into our house, and I got out old washer and dryer hooked up. To test it out, I ran the washer w/o any clothes, filled it up and ran a drain/spin cycle. during the spin cycle, the washer began to vibrate unlike I had ever noticed before. I checked the feet to make sure it was level, and it appeared to be.

So, what I am wondering is, could something have gotten damaged during the move that would make the tub off balance?

Also, on a separate note, do washers and dryers require any type of periodic maintenance??
