Washing Machine trouble?

My parent's washing machine clangs really really loud when its doing its final spin, maybe even on other spins, but i'm not sure. They called sears for repairs but they said that it'll cost them 1000+ for repairs. I don't know why, but that's what i was told by my parents. I am assuming that the washing machine might be dirty on the inside? has anyone had experience with a washing machine that sounds like it wants to move? Are there particular parts that needs to be oiled and maintained?

You can buy a brand new top of the line washing machine for far less than $1000. Somebody is trying to screw your parents. Tell them to call a local appliance repair shop. It shouldn't cost more than $200.
 
yea, they're gonna buy a new one, but i can't help but feel is needs nothing more than just cleaning, inside, or just some more oil, does anyonek now if this is standard to washing machine maintenance/? cleaning and oil i googled and i found that they just said to replace the hose every 5 years and the loud noise is due to an imbalance inside the washer.
 
I assume they checked to see if the clothes were evenly distributed in the washer? I also can't believe the $1000 estimate. What kind of washer is it? You can almost buy a top of the line washer for $1000.
