Yeah, my same thoughts, if it were real, I'd imagine there would be something a bit more concrete about it by now.

Try this detergent instead - it's real detergent, derived from something in coconuts. It doesn't have any of the fluorescent dyes that most other detergents have. To make whites and colors look brighter, some detergents have dyes that remain on the fabric after it's washed. When any UV light hits it, it fluoresces and makes the fabric look brighter. I did a little informal test with Tide Free and a blacklight. 2 spots of detergent were placed on a paper towel, one of Tide Free, and one of 7th Gen's stuff, and then the towel was thoroughly rinsed. The spot where the Tide was lit up under the blacklight, but 7th Gen's didn't.

The dyes should be benign, though they can cause mild skin irritation for some people, which may manifest itself as itchiness.

If you want to buy the stuff, be sure to click on the Coupons link at the top of the page and get a dollar off the bottle.
The trouble might be in finding the stuff. I've only seen their products at Giant and Giant Eagle stores.

Oh, and since this is an environment-related thread and that certain someone isn't here right now, *ahem*
"Carbon con!" There, it's been said. ;)
