Washers and Dryer recommendations?

The washer and dryer are going to be on the second floor(terrible placement!) and are near a lot of bedrooms. So noise is a big factor, and so is vibration. Our last washer and dryer started getting really loud and vibrating a lot... I don't know how the new washer and dryers do, so I was wondering what you all recommend. Big capacity is a necessary thing too. We have five people in this house and we are going to be washing a mega-ton of clothes. We also wash blankets and stuff quite frequently because we have messy dogs who sleep with us at night or get on the bed with us when we watch TV or read.

What do you think is good right now? I am having a difficult time finding good reviews, anyone have places they recommend to read from?

Front load is a must too. It also needs to be elevated. (Pedestal?)

we purchased the whirlpool duet series last year. super quiet and economical. ran us $1800, but well worth it.

and i built my own pedestal out of 2x4's and plywood covered with carpet (maybe $25.00).

pedestals are gonna run you $199.00 apiece.

A lot of people are saying they have these. It's either, "They are great." or "They broke." :(

When I got my first house I got Whirpool Duets and I have loved them. They can wash a Cali-King comforter. Very large capacity. However they spin at a very high speed which can cause vibration issues on a second floor. I think most front loaders spin at a high speed which is going to cause vibration issues on a second floor unless the floor area was constructed probably for a washer/dryer.

It's a cheap house IMO, so I doubt it was constructed "well." Do you have any suggestions for dampening the vibrations? Big mat of rubber? I am not sure what to do about the vibrations at all.

Re-balance the washer/drier legs, and install damper pads. Insulate the wall celings, and floor. Install solid door to the washer/drier room.

I really don't know. I have mine on a pedestal. Laying down a big rubber mat could maybe help. Also you could see if the speed is adjustable. I got mine in 2/04 and have worked great. If you are getting front loaders make sure they get installed so both doors on each side open outward away from each other. I am not sure if this makes sense but basically it makes it easier to move the load from the washer to the dryer because you don't have to go over the door.

You can stiffen the joist with cross bracing from below or screw sheets of plies to the under side ceiling.

Anywhere else. Their service after the sale sucks ass. The rebates aren't worth it. And their installers are morans. Also, don't pay for install.

I am a bit ignorant, but isn't installing just hauling it upstairs and connecting a few things? :-/

I had a great experience with Sears when I bought my LG Washer/Dryer. Best price around and rebate was simple to do online.

Delivery - they called me the day prior and gave me a delivery time between 3-4pm. They called me at 2:45pm telling me they be there in 15 minutes. They showed-up at 3pm and hauled the washer and dryer up 3 floors without scratching a thing, stacked and installed them in about 20 minutes. Gave the deliver/installers $20 tip for their great work.

me and the wife bought a Front loader set by LG. Has worked great and no problems.

As where to by, whom ever is the cheapest.

Sears, HD, and Lowes are the big 3. HD and Lowes have 10% coupons and sears has sales all the time as well. Most offer low to free shipping now.

Yes, and leveling. I wasn't home so we chose for Sears to do our install. They put our front loaders so the doors opened into each other, connected the drier vent but did not secure the connection (duct tape or a clamp). Did not level either unit so the washer was off balance.

The service guy had been to our house 7 times in the first year to fix the struts for the washer. They squeak really bad. After the year was up and the issue still not fixed, it was "Out of their hands". I said fuck it and am running it into the ground. Once dead my home warranty will replace it or fix it for $70.

Got a refrigerator and had it installed the same time as the washer and dryer. First thing when I got home, went to open it and the entire thing pulled forward. They forgot to level and lower the feet on it.

Morans. At least at my location.

As for the washer, consider front loaders only. While they do spin at much higher speeds, at least on highest setting (ours has 5 spin speeds to select from), the spin is vertical, not horizontal, so is much less irritating if off-balanced.

Best way to use.....stack the dryer on top of the washer, both doors opening to same side...washer on pedestal. Makes washing and drying very easy and much less back-breaking. Most front loaders allow stacking the dryer on top of the washer.....but check your mfgr's recommendations.

I got my Whirpool Duets Front Loader washer at Costco for $750. I believe the matching dryer is around the same price. $1500 for a set.

Oh, BTW the pedestals are an option for $130 a piece.

went out looking today and I want the electrolux combo. If they actually would ever go on sale(they can't go on sale), and were not over $3000, we would get them. :p Probably going to get the Whirpool Duet (Not sure if we are getting steam, I want it).

The electrolux are so awesome. :) Even the older model is great, but the newer model has all this new stuff with it :)The electrolux also uses a direct drive[something?]... So no breaking belts, I guess.
