Washer and the PC don't go together...

I was working on my aunt's pc earlier. The pc was near the washer and when did the high speed spin thing, the pc acted up. The display on the monitor was like getting rippled and the system was slowing down.

In that spin by the washer, does it really give up some kinda of electromagnetic field? This is scary. I think I'm gonna have my aunt move the pc else where.

Anyone experienced this before?

It's very possible that the washer is giving off EMI. It's also very possible that since the PC was physically near the washer, that it was plugged into the same branch circuit.

If it's not possible to relocate the PC, an AVR UPS will fix that ripple problem.

I had a similar problem caused by a microwave.

there are several possible causes
(1) you're trippn' on something
(2) the washer does not comply with part 15 of the FCC rules
(3) the compuer is on the same circuit as the washer, and the washer is generating noise on the line

First check if the computer is on the same circtuit, if it is, then move the computer. If the problem persists move the computer.

if you can't move it, try the above-mentioned UPS, or get a power conditioner (usually found at public address, musical instrument, or pro audio stores).

I seriously thought we were going to see a destroyed computer due to water damage or something.
