Washed out look in some games

So, I sometimes use a monitor for PC games, and other times I use a TV.

Monitor: Dell 2707wfp 27" circa 2007

TV: Samsung 40" LED TV

Now, something I've noticed in some games is that they will look sort of muted... washed out on the monitor, but not on the TV.

They'll look much more vibrant on the TV.

Dishonored is the latest example.

CS:GO looks fine on the monitor... then again I've never played it on the TV for comparison.

I have an EVGA 570 gtx card btw

pretty sure I noticed this same thing with an ATI Radeon mobility when I used my laptop.

Any thoughts? I feel like this is unavoidable and nothing to be done, but I just want to understand.
