"Washed out" colors w/ 9800p. Is there a way to get better color?

is there a way to adjust colors to be more comparable to my 5900? been fiddling with the adj in the ati cp, but only seems to work for overlays? if i turn the brightness down, the contrast is better, but then it's too hard to see things in 3d sometimes.

suggestions?

you are never going to be able to get oversaturated colors like you can with nvidia's digital vibrance; but if you might try playing with the brightness and color temp settings on your monitor itself, things can look really washed out if them set wrong. you can use the nokia monitor test from here to get a lot of things set up right with your monitor, but you will need to locate a color card if you want get your colors correct.

well, i sort of agree on the digital vibrance, however it's turned off in the nv control panel. i had heard something about ati gamma settings in the registry, but it wasn't really clear and i can't seem to find that post.

I'll try the calibration tho. thanks.

You won't get the board properly calibrated, colors stay muted no matter what you do. I'm still looking for a good deal on a Matrox board for 2D, can't believe how high the prices on those things stay(probably end up having to go ebay to pick one up, I'm not going to pay $150 for a board with, on a realistic basis, no 3D support).

I think the colors look more natural. Maybe the problem is that you are comparing ati to a more colorful image. If you look at a colorful image and then lessen the color, to you the difference would be great and look worse, when in reality, it is just fine.

Do you think that there is a marketing scheme to this. Bright and colorful things usually attract people and make them feel better about themselves. Hmmm.
