Nope.
THey would have to go absolutely ballistic to make a Z06 eater. The Z06 is already nipping on the heels of the Ford GT "supercar."
I highly doubt in my mind that the SVT will be a "Z06 Eater".
The GT500 is going to push 450hp or so, which is 50hp less than the Z06. It will also weigh several hundred pounds more (400-500lbs), and on top of that, and have an inferior suspension. Acceleration wise, I give a very slight nod the Z06, but on a race course, the Z06 would definately take it. The GT500 is a cool car though. Not sure on the pricing of it, but if they can keep it under $50k, it would be an awesome car for the price. Probably best bang for the buck, right along side the C6 Z06.
Regarding the Z06 vs Ford GT. Its pretty equal. The GT pushes out 550hp and weighs a little over 3300lbs, the C6 Z06 pushes out 505hp and weighs about 200lbs less. Very identical power to weight ratios.
Acceleration wise, they both run the quarter mile in Mid-11s (GT - 11.6 @ 128mph, C6 Z06 estimated Mid-11s in 120s), and both have an equally capable and fantastic suspensions. They will be very very close in performance. If I had to put money on it, I'd probably give the nod to the Ford GT, however, the Z06 is a much better car for the price.
I realize its all speculation and this is all just magazine/bench racing, but there is truth behind each statement. Honestly, I just do not feel that the GT500 will be a Z06 "eater", let alone, barely outperform it.
Anyone else think it's crazy that affordable cars have gotten blindingly fast in the last few years. I mean, 0-60 in less than four seconds. That's like, cartoon stuff.
Yes, I do find it pretty crazy. We have 400+hp cars as "affordable", while back then, it was only reserved for the Exotics from Europe. C5 Z06, C6, C6 Z06, GTO, GT500, Last gen Cobras (close enough, 390hp), CTS-V, and probably others that I have forgetten. There are also countless others around or above the 300hp range.
I do believe this is the "Golden Age" for car enthusiasts right now.
