I've always known that you turn 16.5, u get a permit, and at 17, you get a license...recently, i've been hearing from people at my school that if you were born in 1989 or later, you have to now be 17.5 to get your permit, and 18 to get a license...can anyone confirm this. I'm really pissed, because I had a car ready for me to drive in a little over a year. I was born April 7th, 1989, so this law would apply to me. I couldn't find anything online, so I wanted to know if anyone else could.

I got my license at 16 and never had problems, never understood why so many of my peers were such idiots.

I realize this post was completely worthless and did nothing other than allow me space to gloat that I beat this whole graduated-licensing fad.

I got my license in July of 1999, I think only a year or two before they instituted graduated licensing in WA state.

I think all you pastey white, overweight pimple farmers should have to wait at least until you're 25 to get a license. You all piss me off. :Q

Graduated licencing does help save lives. But they should put in a little clause. A. If you graduated from high school, you don't have to go through it. B. If you have an IQ of over 120, you don't have to go through it. Problem is because of alllllllllll these idiotic foools that are always dieing.

Currently in TN, age 15 is permit, 16 is restricted license (no more than 1 passenger), and 18 is a full license.

<complete sarcasm>Yes, because your IQ is what determines if you have the qualifications to drive or not...</complete sarcasm>

17 to get your license, wth? I got my license when I started driver's ed when I was 15. 30 days after my 16th b-day I got my license, which only lets me have passengers over the age of 21 for 90 days. Once my 90 days were up there aren't really too many restrictions.

HA! I got mine the day before graduated licensing went into effect in Ohio (well, actually, I passed the tested, I didnt get the license until 2-3 days later).

Good.

Less punks out there that don't know how to drive.

Now if they could do something about the women drivers...

I'll probably get flamed for saying this, but personally I think teenagers should wait til they are 18 to get their license.
16 year-olds tend to have a higher risk factor than other age groups.

Now I'm not saying every 16 year old is a bad driver, but in general, statistics have shown they are more likely to get into accidents, and thats why their insurances is so high.

I got my permit at 15 and license at 16. I'm 18 now. I didn't know that it was so much higher in other places.

I agree with the last part, but i think (not saying i will or anything), but many teens ages 16-17 will get in a car a drive anyways, thus increasing crime rates. It's kind of like the prohibition, people still drank as usual, just made the "official" crime rate go up. idk, but if thats how it's gonna be, i'm pissed. I was hoping to be able to drive to school now, buses suck.

MN is working on, or passed, a law that says if you are under 18 and have one (1) moving violation and (1) accident, then you can't have your license till you are 18. Excelent Law.

On a side note, got my license when I was 14! Yay!

Here in Oregon, it's 15 for permit and 16 for license.

But there are pretty strict rules if you're under 18, like no passengers other than family during certain hours or something...

Agreed, but I think one moving violation is more than enough to warrant suspension.

Definately. I believe that a person should be on "Driving Probation" before they turn 18. One faskup and they are done!

Clean record here.
