Was there a bad Windows 7 SP1 64-bit update in April 2013?

Curious. Trying to track down an issue, and it seems likely that there was a bad update.

There was a bad Windows Update recently, certainly within the last month or so. I don't remember if it was restricted to Win7 64. I think I encountered a couple of bizarre incidents that I thought were related to it.

My memory is far worse than usual at this time of morning. I'll let you know if I remember anything later :)

KB2823324 originally had issues. It has since been fixed.

As for whether it's related to your problem, it depends on what your problem is. Also, it generally only affects Portuguese 32bit systems.

Microsoft is investigating behavior where systems may not recover from a restart, or applications cannot load, after security update 2823324 is applied.

I believe this update was only available for a day or two before Microsoft recognized the issue and pulled it. So the only ones affected should be the early(silly) adopters. I actually have Windows Update set to run on Friday afternoon. Gives some leeway to identify potential issues.

I personally would only do that for machines behind a router and that never connect to public wifi hotspots.

As it was that update only affected Windows and Vista machines running specific 3rd party software. I let my windows 7 machine run with the faulty update for several days and had no issue before I removed it, after I read that the issue that was patched needed local access to the computer for the attack to work.
