I bought a set of Michelin MXV4 195/65 R15 for a 1999 Nissan Altima GXE in September 2012. Tires have been rotated about every 5,000-6,000 miles since then, over roughly 20,000 miles. Tire pressure checked roughly every week, or at most every ten days, depending on weather fluctuations etc. At least 7/32 tread remaining on all tires. Today i had a large screw stuck in the left rear, well in to the repairable area. Went to the place where I bought the tires, they said they'd plug and patch. A long time goes by, I was watching a guy try to mount the tire on the wheel for quite a while, he seemed to not get it to mount. The front desk calls me and says that my tire is shot, needs to be replaced. There was a two inch crack by the bead, that's why it has been leaking he said. What leak I said, I check it every week, no unusual leak on that tire compared to the other tires for the last year and a half, until you unmounted it and remounted it. He said they would prorate the tire, and let me get a new one for $60. I said there wasn't anything wrong as far as I knew, besides the screw, how come I haven't had a leak over the last 18 months? He immediately said he'd work with me this one time and gave me the replacement for free. What do you say, ATG?

Sounds like they must have had a new employee rip the bead on the tire putting it on.

Absolute bs they would even consider charging you for it. We all make mistakes but damn don't take it out on the customer. I'd try and call for a manager, let them know the sales guy's name.

Or it was: New employee ripped the bead, told his boss "doood look what I found" like he found a defect and it went on from there.

Unfortunately this is not surprising at all to hear.

I've had this BS happen with dealers as well.
