Was the infamous Outlook 2K and Win2KPro problem with SETI ever fixed?

I've switched from Win98SE to Win2KPro and now I'm having the infamous pausing problem in Outlook 2K (I haven't tried Word, Excel, etc. yet). Is there any solution to this problem or should I just stop SETI when I use Outlook 2K?

I haven't found a solution, as I have to use off-line folders (personal folders) and it's the synchronization of those files that cause the lockup. So I have to kill SETIDRIVER, do my thing in Outlook, then I have a shortcut to restart SETIDRIVER. I have changed my synchronization to take longer between synchronizations, and that helps, as I can get in and work until it tries to synchronize the off-line folders. Then I have to kill SETIDRIVER.

If there is a workaround, I'd be interested too. :)

If you don't need off-line folders or personal folders, get rid of them, and I think that Outlook works fine then.

All I have is the inbox and a special folder that my AT subscriptions get dumped into..so I guess I can try to turn that other stuff off and see if it helps. Thanks!

Next question...how do I disable offline and personal folders? :) I looked around in Outlook, but I can't find anything.

I think if you are using Internet POP3/SMTP setup, you must use personal folders. I think the only way not to use them is if you are connected to an Exchange server. It's part of the account setup.

Offline folders are not installed by default, so you would've had to have selected that option during setup.

Dang, I'm doing POP3/SMTP. :( I guess I'll just have to live with it as I don't remember installing offline folders when I installed Office.

I normall do an install of Win2K/Office2K and kill the Symantec Fax stuff. The last PnP image I did I went thru and killed "offline folders" (don't remember where I found it). Outlook pause still happened.

BTW - The pause exists in both POP/Exchange for me.

Was it "Net Folders?" That is part of the Outlook install, and it can be removed via Control Panel > Add/Remove > Office > Change > Add or Remove Features and then expand Outlook. Doesn't fix the problem for me either, though. :(

So.... How did you guys keep on running SETI with these problems? I'm just now setting up on another rig that runs Outlook and W2K Pro (my other one doesn't use Outlook), and I can't get SETI Driver to initiate. I'm trying to run the GUI in the meantime, but that isn't doing so hot either: I've had to reboot a couple of times. Any direction would be good! Thanks

I just use SETIDRIVER, with a shortcut on the desktop. I let it run, open Outlook, and when/if it bogs down, I close SETIDRIVER, which frees up Outlook. Once I'm done with Outlook, I close it, and restart SETIDRIVER with the shortcut. The only problem is when I get interrupted and forget to restart SETIDRIVER.

I'm hosed. Our domain policy doesn't let me remove offline folders (option greyed, plus I actually use a personal folder). My machine locks all the time for 3-10 seconds. Very, very frustrating. If it wasn't a dual 933 and actually cranking out a decent amount of w/u's (~50/wk), I'd stop running it. I should probably write an AT job to kill outlook.exe everynight at like 7pm but I'm too lazy. :)

Does this problem effect Outlook Express 6? I can use that instead.

I'd check myself but I'm not at my Win2K computer. :)

Funny, I still have the prob with Outlook XP, must be a setting...

Strange I use it both at home and at work. At home it is setup for my home account which is POP3. At work it is setup for an exchange server and I experience no delays with the Outlook XP and Win2K.

SETIHide has a feature which will pause SETI when a defined application is started ,maybe you want to give that a try?
