How is this analysis as follows?:

The Democrat Party went from the Libertarian Party of its day (rum, romanism, and rebellion), to the progressive/corporatist/modern liberal Party of Wilson/FDR/LBJ.

The Republican Party has a more interesting history. It started out as the corporatist/progressive/modern liberal Mercantalist Party, then it became a hybrid party with two opposing wings (Harding/Coolidge/Taft vs. Dewey/Landon), neither of which was completely dominant around the time the progressives hijacked the Democrat Party, then it went back to the Mercantalist Statist Party of Lincoln with Hoover, Eisenhower, Nixon, Ford, and Reagan (the 2 former to a lesser degree than the 3 latter).

They weren't hijacked, the demographics simply changed. Today some 90% of democrats live in cities whereas a hundred years ago they lived in the country. Urban people tend to be more cosmopolitan, rural more conservative. Big surprise.

I know. Real republicanism, the principles of '76, died in 1789 when the ultra-democratic Constitution came into effect.

I wish we still had the old republicanism that was dominant during the Confederation era.
